Paxton Wiegand Output Activation Card

Only a single Wiegand activation card needs to be purchased as this will allow you to toggle the Wiegand functionality on or off. With HID Wiegand enabled, Hitag2 Paxton tokens and EM tokens will no longer be read by the reader. Toggling HID Wiegand off again will allow Paxton and EM tokens to be read again.

  • To enable Wiegand, simply present your activation card to the reader you wish to activate within 2 minutes of power up. To change the reader output again, simply present the card again within 2 minutes of power up.
  • Note: Wiegand output mode isn’t supported on PaxLock or entry.

1) How do I use the Paxton activation card to switch a reader to Wiegand?
Power cycle the reader, then present the card within 2 minutes of power up. The reader LED confirms which mode it landed in: green for Wiegand output, red for clock and data. To change it back, present the card again inside the same 2 minute window after another power up. Outside that window the reader ignores it.
2) How many Paxton Wiegand activation cards do I need for a site with multiple readers?
One. A single activation card toggles the Wiegand setting on any reader you present it to, so you buy one card for the whole job and carry it door to door rather than ordering one per reader.
3) Will enabling HID Wiegand stop my existing Paxton fobs from working?
Yes, and this is the part that catches people out. With HID Wiegand enabled, the reader will no longer read Hitag2 Paxton tokens or EM tokens. If you have a mixed population of Paxton tokens and HID cards on one door, that door can only serve one of them. Toggling Wiegand back off with the same card restores reading of Paxton and EM tokens.
4) Can I set a PaxLock to Wiegand output with this card?
No. Wiegand output mode isn't supported on PaxLock or on Paxton entry hardware, so the activation card does nothing on those. It applies to Paxton readers that support switchable Wiegand and clock and data output.
5) Which Paxton part number is the Wiegand activation card, and does the regional suffix matter?
The sales code is 125-201, sold with a regional suffix (-D, -EX, -F, -NL, -US). The US version is 125-201-US. The suffix identifies the regional pack, not a different function.
6) I'm integrating a Paxton reader into a third party access panel that wants Wiegand. Do I need to buy anything besides the reader?
You need this one activation card. The reader ships reading Paxton tokens on clock and data; the card is what flips its output to HID Wiegand so a third party panel can accept it. One card covers every reader on the job, and it's reversible if you later move the door back onto a Paxton system.
7) Is the Paxton 125-201 card the same thing as a Paxton user token?
No. It carries no access rights and is never enrolled to a person. It's a one-off commissioning tool that changes reader output mode, so an installer normally keeps it in the van rather than handing it out. User tokens and cards are ordered separately.
