PDQ 101630 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What ANSI type is the PDQ 101 wall stop, and does it meet a door stop spec calling for L02101?
The 101 carries ANSI Type L02101. If the hardware schedule or spec sheet on your job calls out an L02101 wall bumper, this is the matching function designation, so you can submit it against that line without substituting a different type.
2) What finishes does the PDQ 101 wall stop come in, and how do I order the right one?
Six finishes: 605 bright brass, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 619 satin nickel, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome, and 630 satin stainless steel. The finish code appends to the model, so you order the 101 in satin chrome as 101626, or satin stainless as 101630. For a building being standardized, pick the code that matches your existing lever and hinge finish and use it across all the openings.
3) My wall stop keeps getting torn out of the drywall. Is a convex wall bumper like the PDQ 101 the wrong choice?
A wall bumper only works where there is solid backing behind it, such as a stud or a block. If the door swings hard into open drywall, move the stop off the wall entirely. PDQ's General Hardware line includes floor stops in low dome, high dome, riser and offset styles, kick down stops in 4 inch and 5 inch lengths, and a 5 inch hinge stop, any of which takes the load away from the wall surface. The 101 convex bumper is the right part when you have backing and want the door held off the finished wall.
4) I need the door to stay open, not just stop. Will the PDQ 101 hold a door open?
No. The 101 is a stop only, a convex bumper that limits how far the door swings. For hold open, PDQ's line includes a door holder with stop, floor stops with a keeper or hold open option, and kick down stops. Specify one of those instead if the door has to stay parked.
5) What is the difference between the PDQ 101 convex wall stop and a concave wall stop?
The PDQ 101 is the convex bumper version, meaning the rubber face bulges outward and takes the door edge on a rounded surface. PDQ's concave wall stop uses a dished face that cups the strike point instead, which suits doors fitted with a projecting edge or roller strike. Both mount to the wall; the choice comes down to what part of the door makes contact. PDQ also offers an adhesive backed bumper style for surfaces you would rather not drill.
6) Is the PDQ 101 wall stop rated for commercial door openings or just residential use?
Commercial. The 101 wall stop is part of PDQ's commercial General Hardware line of accessories for commercial door openings, so it is the right class of part for office, school, healthcare, and multi-family corridor doors rather than a light residential bumper.
7) Can I order the PDQ 101 wall stop in oil rubbed bronze to match dark bronze lever trim?
The closest dark option on the 101 is 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, ordered as 101613E. That is the dark bronze finish PDQ offers on this stop; there is no separate oil rubbed code in the 101 range, so 613E is what you would specify alongside dark bronze trim.
