PDQ 6300D Wide Stile Dummy Exit Device

6300 Series Wide Stile Dummy Exit Device

The PDQ 6300D is a dummy exit device for doors where no exit function is required but a consistent look with the building's 6300 Series exit devices is wanted. It is a push bar with no latching mechanism, commonly used on inside vestibule doors or on a leaf that should match the working panic hardware on adjacent doors.

The active push bar can be dogged down to make it inactive, and an optional signal switch lets the bar act as an electrical switch to control electronic devices such as mag locks. It shares the 6300 Series cast chassis, quiet cushion spring and heavy-duty flush end caps.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a dummy exit device?
A dummy exit device is a push bar with no latching mechanism. It gives a door a matching exit device appearance where no exit function is required, such as an inside vestibule door.

Does the 6300D provide any fire or panic protection?
No. It is a non-functioning push bar with no UL 305 panic listing or fire door rating, since it does not latch or unlatch anything.

What door sizes and stile widths fit the 6300D?
Standard widths are 24", 36" and 48" for doors 1-3/4" to 2" thick, with a 3" minimum stile width.

PDQ 6300D630 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What exactly is the PDQ 6300D dummy exit device, and will it latch a door?
The PDQ 6300D is a push bar with no latching mechanism at all. It bolts to the door so the leaf matches the look of working 6300 Series panic hardware, but it does not latch, unlatch, or secure anything. Use it on an inactive leaf or an inside vestibule door where no exit function is required. If the door actually needs to latch and release, you need a functioning rim or vertical rod exit device instead, not the 6300D.
2) Can the 6300D be used on a fire rated or panic-rated opening?
No. The 6300D carries no UL 305 panic listing and no fire door rating, because it does not latch or unlatch anything. On a fire door or an opening where panic hardware is required by code, specify a listed functioning exit device. The 6300D does comply with ADA and ICC/ANSI A117.1 for operation, which is a separate matter from panic and fire listings.
3) Will the PDQ 6300D fit my door thickness and stile width?
The 6300D mounts on doors 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch thick with a 3 inch minimum stile width. That 3 inch stile is the limit that matters on aluminum storefront: narrower stiles will not take the wide stile rail. The wide stile rail measures 2-13/16 inches with an 8-3/16 inch head, and projection is 3-1/8 inches extended, 2-1/2 inches depressed, so allow that clearance in a vestibule or tight pocket. Doors outside 1-3/4 to 2 inch thickness require factory consultation.
4) Which door width do I order, and how long is the push bar on each?
Three standard widths are offered: 24 inch (2'0"), 36 inch (3'0") and 48 inch (4'0") doors. Push bar length runs 16 inches on the 24 inch device, 18 inches on the 36 inch, and 24 inches on the 48 inch. Each width carries its own part number prefix, 6300D for the 3'0", 6310D for the 4'0", and 6320D for the 2'0", with the finish number appended.
5) Can a dummy push bar be wired to release a mag lock or send a request-to-exit signal?
Yes, with the SS option. The optional signal switch turns the 6300D push bar into an electrical switch for request to exit and monitoring, which is how it is typically used to drop a mag lock on an electronically secured opening. ISMC connectors are also available. Add SS when you order; without it the bar is purely mechanical.
6) Can a PDQ 6300D device be cut down to fit a non-standard door width?
Yes, within limits. The 36 inch device can be cut a maximum of 6 inches and the 48 inch device a maximum of 12 inches. The 24 inch device cannot be cut at all. If you are going shorter than those cuts allow, order the next size down rather than trimming past the limit.
7) Do I have to worry about handing when ordering the PDQ 6300D?
No. The device is non-handed, so one part number works on either a left or right hand door, and trim is non-handed or field reversible. For a property manager stocking spares across a building, that means a single finish and width covers both leaves of a pair.
8) Can the push bar on the 6300D be locked out so it does not move?
Yes. Dogging is standard: the push bar is active out of the box and can be dogged down to make it inactive, which is useful when you want the bar to look like the adjacent panic hardware but stay rigid. One exception, dogging is not available on the 24 inch devices.
9) What fasteners come with the PDQ 6300D and what should I add for a glass storefront or high-abuse door?
Machine screws and wood screws are included. For aluminum storefront or any door where you want the device through-bolted, add the SNB sex nuts and bolts option. Tamper proof security head screws (SHS) are available where the hardware is exposed to the public, and an end cap cover (EC) can be added for appearance.
10) What finishes does the PDQ 6300D come in so it matches the exit devices already on my other doors?
Seven finishes: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 622 flat black, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome, and 630 satin stainless steel. All seven are available in each of the three door widths, so a 24, 36 and 48 inch opening can all be matched to the same finish code. Order as finish appended to the width prefix, for example 6300D605 for a 3'0" door in bright brass.
11) Is the 6300D a wide stile or narrow stile device, and what is the PDQ narrow stile equivalent?
The 6300D is the wide stile version, with a 2-13/16 inch rail. PDQ's narrow stile rail in the same family is the 6400, at 1-9/16 inches. If you are working a narrow aluminum storefront stile, the 6400 is the one to look at; the 6300 needs a 3 inch minimum stile.
12) How tall a door can the PDQ 6300 Series hardware go on?
The 6300 Series is rated for doors up to 10 feet in height. Since the 6300D is a dummy push bar with no vertical rods, there is no rod length to specify for a tall door, only the device width matched to the door width.
13) Is the PDQ 6300D suitable for commercial or government projects?
It is a commercial grade device, and it is listed as BAA COTS, which matters on federally funded work with Buy American Act requirements. It also complies with ADA and ICC/ANSI A117.1 for operation.
