PDQ 6300M Wide Stile Mortise Exit Device, Panic Rated

Grade 1 Wide Stile Mortise Exit Device, Panic and Fire Rated

The PDQ 6300M is a wide stile mortise exit device for single door applications, part of PDQ's Grade 1 6300 Series. It is built around PDQ's MR Series mortise lock and uses a stainless steel dead locking latch with a 3/4" throw, which makes it suited to retrofits of existing mortise lock openings as well as new installations.

The 6300M is offered in panic rated and fire rated versions. It is ETL listed for UL 305 panic hardware and for UL 10C fire exit hardware up to 90 minutes, complies with ADA and ICC/ANSI 117.1, and is assembled in the USA with a ten (10) year limited warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is a mortise exit device needed instead of a rim device?
A mortise exit device latches into a mortise lock body set into the edge of the door rather than a surface-mounted rim latch. The 6300M suits projects that need a keyed mortise lock function combined with panic hardware, or doors already prepped for a mortise lock.

How is the 6300M different from the 6300R?
The 6300M requires a 5" minimum stile width, wider than the 6300R's 3-1/2", because it houses a full mortise lock body in the door edge. It also carries a 90-minute fire rating, versus 3 hours for the 6300R.

Is the 6300M rated for fire doors?
Yes. The fire rated version is ETL UL 10C and CAN/ULC-S104 listed for 90-minute fire doors on single doors up to 4' x 8'.

PDQ 6300M630 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the PDQ 6300M replace an existing mortise lock on a door already prepped for one?
That is one of its intended uses. The 6300M is built around PDQ's MR Series mortise lock body with a stainless steel dead locking latch at 3/4 inch throw, and it uses the standard ASA 4-7/8 inch strike by default, so openings already prepped for a mortise lock and ASA strike are the straightforward retrofit. Confirm the door edge prep matches the MR lock case before you cut anything.
2) Is the PDQ 6300M approved for use on a fire rated door?
A fire rated version is available and it is ETL listed to UL 10C and CAN/ULC-S104 for 90-minute fire doors on single doors up to 4 feet by 8 feet. Panic versions are ETL listed to UL 305. One catch on fire labeled devices: dogging is not available, so the push bar cannot be held retracted.
3) Can the PDQ 6300M be cut down to fit a non-standard door width?
Yes, within limits. A 36 inch device cuts a maximum of 6 inches (8 inches on fire rated and on CVR cylinder dogging), and a 48 inch device cuts up to 12 inches (14 inches fire rated). The 24 inch device cannot be cut at all. Electrified versions cut less: MLR allows 3 inches on a 3 foot device and 9 inches on a 4 foot, alarmed allows 2 inches and 8 inches, and delayed egress allows no cut on a 3 foot device and 6 inches on a 4 foot.
4) Should I use a mortise exit device or a rim exit device on a single door?
A rim device latches onto a surface-mounted strike on the frame and is simpler to install. A mortise device like the 6300M latches into a lock body set into the door edge, which is what you want when the opening needs a keyed mortise lock function combined with panic hardware, or when the door is already prepped for a mortise lock. The tradeoff is stile width: the 6300M needs 5 inches of stile.
5) Do I need to order the PDQ 6300M handed?
No. The 6300M is non-handed with a field reversible hand, so one device covers left and right openings. The exception is the alarmed exit option, which does require handing to be specified at order.
6) What dogging choices come with the PDQ 6300M, and can I get a status indicator?
Hex key dogging is standard on panic devices. At order you pick from hex key, CD cylinder dogging, LD less dogging, CD-IND cylinder dogging with indicator, or HEX-IND hex key dogging with indicator. Dogging of any kind is unavailable on fire labeled devices and on the 24 inch device.
7) What electrified options can I get on a PDQ 6300M for an access control tie-in?
Available electrified options are MLR motorized latch retraction, SS signal switch for request-to-exit and touch bar monitoring, alarmed exit (including ALHW with hard wire power and relay), LM latch bolt monitoring, delayed egress, and ISMC industry standard Molex connectors alongside the other electrified options. The delayed egress configuration meets UL 294.
8) How far does the PDQ 6300M push bar stick out into the opening?
Projection is 3-1/8 inches extended and 2-1/2 inches depressed. The wide stile rail head measures 2-13/16 x 8-3/16 inches. Those numbers matter where the door swings into a corridor or near a wall-mounted item.
9) How do I order the PDQ 6300M for a 4 foot door versus a 3 foot door?
The part number changes with door width: 6300M for a 3'0" door, 6310M for a 4'0" door, and 6320M for a 2'0" door, with the finish code appended, so a 4 foot door in satin chrome is 6310M626. Keep in mind the 2'0" device takes no dogging and cannot be cut.
10) Will the PDQ 6300M secure a pair of doors?
No. The 6300M is a mortise exit device for single door applications. A pair needs either a mullion with rim devices or a vertical rod device on the inactive leaf.
11) Does the PDQ 6300M exit device come with mounting fasteners?
Machine screws and wood screws are included. SNB sex nuts and bolts are an option if you are through-bolting, and SHS tamper proof security head screws can be added for exposed or high-abuse openings.
12) Which finishes can I get to match the rest of the hardware in my building?
Eight finishes across all three door widths: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 622 flat black, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome, 630 satin stainless steel, and 630F full stainless steel. The 630F option gives fully stainless exposed surfaces rather than a plated aluminum rail. Each combination has its own PDQ number, for example 6300M605 on a 3'0" door.
