PDQ 6300R Wide Stile Rim Exit Device, Panic Rated

Grade 1 Wide Stile Rim Exit Device

The PDQ 6300R is a Grade 1 rim exit device for wide stile doors, certified to ANSI/BHMA A156.3 Grade 1. It latches with a stainless steel 3/4" throw dead locking latch into a standard roller strike, and suits a wide stile single door or a pair of doors with a mullion.

A cast chassis, extruded aluminum rail and heavy-duty flush end cap give the device its strength and pry resistance, while cushion springs keep the push bar quiet when pushed and released and a compression spring returns the bar. The device is non-handed and its trim is non-handed or field reversible. It is offered as a panic rated device and as a fire rated device (6300RF), in 24", 36" and 48" door widths.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the 6300R and the 6400R?
The 6300R is built for wide stile doors and needs a minimum 3-1/2" stile. The 6400R is the narrow stile version, down to a 3-1/8" stile. Both are rim mounted devices with the same UL 305 panic and UL 10C fire listings.

Can the 6300R be installed on a fire rated door?
Yes. The fire rated 6300RF is ETL listed to UL 10C and CAN/ULC-S104 for 3 hour fire doors, covering single doors up to 4' x 10' and single egress pairs with a mullion up to 8' x 8'. The panic model is ETL listed to UL 305.

Can the 6300R be wired for access control?
Yes. Electrified options include motorized latch retraction, request to exit/signal switch, alarmed exit, latch bolt monitoring and delayed egress, so the same rim device can report door status or integrate with an access control system.

PDQ 6300R630 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the PDQ 6300R rim exit device fit my door stile and thickness?
The 6300R needs a minimum 3-1/2 inch stile and fits doors 1-3/4 to 2 inches thick, with a true 2-3/4 inch backset. On panic applications it covers doors up to 10 feet tall. If your stile is narrower than 3-1/2 inches, step to the narrow stile 6400R, which goes down to a 3-1/8 inch stile. Note the strike you choose also has its own stile minimum: the standard roller strike wants 4-1/4 inches on the 6300, while the BS blade stop strike works down to 3-1/2 inches.
2) Can I use the 6300R on a pair of doors?
Yes, but a rim device latches into a strike at the jamb, so a pair needs a mullion between the leaves. The 6300R suits a wide stile single door or a pair with a mullion, and a panic mullion uses the standard roller strike (minimum stile 4-3/4 inches on the 6300). For a fire mullion, order the ML strike 639080 and allow a 4-7/8 inch stile. If you cannot have a mullion in the opening, a rim device is the wrong type and you want a vertical rod device instead.
3) Can the PDQ 6300R go on a fire rated door?
Not as the panic model. The 6300R is ETL listed to UL 305 for panic hardware; for a labeled opening you order the fire rated 6300RF, which is ETL listed to UL 10C and CAN/ULC-S104 for 3 hour fire doors, covering single doors up to 4 x 10 feet and single egress pairs with a mullion up to 8 x 8 feet. Dogging is not available on fire labeled devices, since a fire exit device must latch on every cycle.
4) What dogging options does the PDQ 6300R come with, and can I hold the latch retracted during business hours?
Hex key dogging is standard on the panic device, which lets you hold the push bar depressed and the latch retracted for free push-pull use during open hours. Cylinder dogging (CD) is optional if you would rather key it, and both are available with an indicator (CD-IND or HEX-IND). LD orders it less dogging. Dogging is not offered on fire labeled devices or on 24 inch devices.
5) Which door width of the PDQ 6300R do I order, and can the rail be cut to fit?
Three widths cover standard openings: 24 inch (2'0"), 36 inch (3'0") and 48 inch (4'0"), with push bars of 16, 18 and 24 inches respectively. The 36 inch device can be cut up to 6 inches (8 inches on fire, and on CVR cylinder dogging), and the 48 inch device up to 12 inches (14 inches fire). The 24 inch device cannot be cut at all. Electrified versions cut less: MLR allows 3 inches on a 3 foot device and 9 inches on a 4 foot, alarmed allows 2 and 8 inches, and delayed egress allows no cut on a 3 foot device and 6 inches on a 4 foot.
6) Is the PDQ 6300R approved for Florida and hurricane zone openings?
Yes. The device is approved under the 2023 Florida Building Code structural requirements including HVHZ, FL #40297, rated +60/-65 psf on a 4080 16 gauge single door and +50/-50 psf on a 4080 18 gauge single door. Order the WS windstorm strike (639080) for those applications; it needs a 4-3/8 inch stile on the 6300.
7) How do I get the PDQ 6300R to work with my access control system?
Several electrified options are available on the 6300R: MLR motorized latch retraction for remote unlocking, SS signal switch for request to exit and touch bar monitoring, LM latch bolt monitoring for door status, alarmed exit (ALHW adds hard wire power and relay), and delayed egress, which is UL 294 listed. ISMC industry standard Molex connectors can be added alongside the other electrified options. None of the electrified options are offered on the 24 inch device.
8) What is the difference between the PDQ 6300R and the 6400R?
Stile width is the dividing line. The 6300R is the wide stile device and needs at least a 3-1/2 inch stile, with a 2-13/16 inch rail. The 6400R is the narrow stile version for aluminum storefront type stiles down to 3-1/8 inches, with a 1-9/16 inch rail. Both are rim mounted, share the UL 305 panic and UL 10C fire listings, and the strike stile minimums run narrower on the 6400 across the board.
9) Do I need to worry about handing when ordering the PDQ 6300R?
The device itself is non-handed, and the trim is either non-handed or field reversible, so one part covers left and right hand openings. The one exception is the alarmed exit option, which does have to be ordered to the handing of the door.
10) Will the PDQ 6300R meet accessibility push force requirements?
The 6300R complies with ADA and ICC/ANSI A117.1 as supplied. For California openings that need a 5 pound maximum push force, add the 5P accessibility option, which carries CBC 11B-309.4 compliance.
11) What fasteners come with the PDQ 6300R, and what should I add on a high abuse door?
Machine and wood screws are supplied, so it mounts to hollow metal or wood doors as shipped. On high traffic or high abuse openings, specify SNB sex nuts and bolts to through-bolt the device, and SHS tamper proof security head screws. There are no exposed screws on the back of the push bar.
12) Can I match the PDQ 6300R to the other exit devices in my building?
Eight finishes are offered across all three door widths: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 622 flat black, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome, 630 satin stainless steel and 630F full stainless steel. Each configuration gets its own PDQ number, for example 6300R605. If you want the head covered for a cleaner look, the EC end cap cover and the TLA head cover are available, the TLA in 630 finish only.
13) Is the PDQ 6300R heavy enough for a school or hospital entrance?
It is a Grade 1, heavy duty commercial device certified to ANSI/BHMA A156.3 Grade 1, with a cast chassis, extruded aluminum rail and a heavy duty flush end cap for pry resistance. Cushion springs quiet the bar on push and release and a compression spring returns it. PDQ lists educational, healthcare and office applications for the 6300 Series.
14) How far does the PDQ 6300R push bar stick out into the opening?
Projection is 3-1/8 inches extended and 2-1/2 inches depressed, so allow a little over 3 inches of clear space from the door face. The wide stile rail measures 2-13/16 inches with an 8-3/16 inch head.
