PDQ GP125 Grade 2 Communicating Cylindrical Lever Lock

Grade 2 Heavy Duty Commercial Cylindrical Lever Lock

The PDQ GP125 is the Communicating function of the PDQ GP Series Grade 2 Heavy Duty Cylindrical Lock.

The PDQ GP Series is an ANSI/BHMA A156.2 Grade 2 cylindrical lever lock with a heavy duty diecast chassis. Its lever torque resistance of 1,500 lbf-in is tested to three times the ANSI/BHMA standard.

The GP Series complements PDQ's Grade 1 GT and XGT cylindrical locks, using the same Philadelphia, Boston and Miami lever designs and rose options. That lets a building put Grade 1 hardware on exterior and high-traffic doors and GP locks on low to medium traffic openings without a visual mismatch. GP locks are assembled in Lancaster, PA and carry an 8-year limited warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the GP and PDQ's Grade 1 GT lock?
GP is Grade 2, rated for lower-traffic openings, while GT is Grade 1 for heavy-duty use. GP shares the same Philadelphia, Boston and Miami lever designs as GT, so a project can specify GT on exterior and high-traffic doors and GP on interior doors without a visual mismatch.

Is the GP lock fire rated and ADA compliant?
Yes. GP is UL listed for 3-hour fire doors on single doors up to 4'0" x 8'0" and complies with ADA and ICC/ANSI 117.1 accessibility standards.

What door prep and backset does the GP use?
GP is a thru-bolt design that fits standard 160/161 door prep on doors 1-3/8" to 1-3/4" thick, with a 2-3/4" standard or 2-3/8" backset.

PDQ GP125BSN626 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the communicating function on the PDQ GP125 lever lock actually do?
The GP125 is the communicating function of PDQ's GP Series cylindrical lever lock, and it is non-keyed. Both levers operate the latch, so the door can be opened from either side with no cylinder and no locking. It is the function used on a pass-through door between two rooms or suites where you want a lever set that matches the rest of the hardware but no security at that opening. If you need a locking opening, specify a keyed GP function instead.
2) Will the PDQ GP125 fit a 1-3/8 inch door, and does it need a new door prep?
It covers doors from 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch thick and ships preset for 1-3/4 inch, so a 1-3/8 inch door means adjusting the chassis at install. The prep is standard 160 or 161 bored prep with a 2-3/4 inch backset, so on most existing cylindrical openings it drops straight in. A 2-3/8 inch backset is available if the hole in your door is at the residential-style backset.
3) Do I have to order the GP125 handed for a left or right door?
No. The GP125 is non-handed, so one lock works on a left or right hand door and you do not have to field-reverse anything. For a property manager buying several at once, that means one part number covers every opening regardless of swing.
4) Can the PDQ GP125 go on a fire rated door?
Yes. The GP Series is UL 10C listed for 3-hour fire doors on single doors up to 4 feet by 8 feet, and the GP125 is a fire rated lock. Because the communicating function has no locking, confirm your local authority accepts a non-locking lever on that particular fire opening before installing.
5) Is a Grade 2 lock like the GP125 enough, or should I spend up to a Grade 1?
Grade 2 to ANSI/BHMA A156.2, heavy duty, and intended for low to medium traffic interior openings. PDQ's GT and XGT cylindrical locks are the Grade 1 choice for exterior and high-use doors. The GP uses the same Philadelphia, Boston and Miami levers and rose options as GT, so you can run Grade 1 on the hard-use doors and GP everywhere else without the hardware looking different. Lever torque resistance on the GP is 1,500 lbf-in, three times the BHMA/ANSI requirement.
6) Is the GP125 lever ADA compliant for a school or healthcare corridor?
It is ADA compliant and meets ICC/ANSI 117.1, with a 65 degree lever rotation. For visually impaired signalling you can add tactile abrasive coating on the inside only, outside only, or both sides. A lead-lined rose option is available for radiology areas, and an antimicrobial coating is offered on the 626 satin chrome finish.
7) What lever styles and finishes does the PDQ GP125 come in?
Three lever designs, Philadelphia, Boston and Miami, each in seven finishes: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 619 satin nickel, 622 flat black, 625 bright chrome and 626 satin chrome. All levers are solid diecast on a 3-3/8 inch diameter wrought brass rose with concealed screws. Part numbers read like GP125PHL605 for Philadelphia in bright brass. If the two sides of the door need different finishes, there is a split finish option, ordered outside trim first then inside.
8) Does the PDQ GP125 take a key cylinder or an interchangeable core?
Neither. The GP125 is the non-keyed communicating function, so there is no cylinder in it. Keying options in the GP Series, including the SCC Schlage C compatible keyway and small format interchangeable cores compatible with Best, Falcon and Arrow, apply to the keyed GP functions, not to this one.
9) How is the GP125 secured to the door, and will it hold up to someone yanking on the lever?
Thru-bolt design, so both roses bolt through the door rather than relying on screws into the chassis alone. A 13-gauge steel anti-rotation plate is installed on the secure side to keep the rose from spinning. The chassis combines diecast, investment cast and cold rolled steel with a stainless steel mechanism, and lever torque resistance is 1,500 lbf-in. GP locks are assembled in Lancaster, PA.
10) Does the GP125 need any power or wiring?
No. It is a purely mechanical cylindrical lever lock with no electronic components, so there is nothing to wire, no transformer and no power transfer hinge. Nothing changes about how the door works in a power outage.
