PDQ GT141 Grade 1 Communicating Cylindrical Lever Lock

Grade 1 Heavy Duty Commercial Cylindrical Lock

The PDQ GT141 is the Communicating function (ANSI/BHMA F80) of the PDQ GT Series Grade 1 Heavy Duty Cylindrical Lock.

The PDQ GT Series is a Grade 1 heavy duty cylindrical lock certified to ANSI/BHMA A156.2. PDQ positions it as its general purpose Grade 1 lock for everyday commercial exterior and interior openings, with lever torque resistance of 2,200 lbf-in, three times the BHMA/ANSI standard, and cycle testing to over 3 times BHMA standards.

A heavy duty diecast chassis, machined billet steel spindles and a 13 gauge steel anti-rotation plate on the secure side give the lock its strength. A 2:1 latchbolt throw allows a 41 degree lever rotation, which reduces torque and extends the life of the lock. The GT is non-handed, assembled in Lancaster, PA, and offered in Philadelphia, Boston and Miami lever styles.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the GT strong enough for a busy school or office building, or is the XGT needed?
The GT handles standard to heavy commercial traffic and covers most exterior and interior doors in schools, offices and retail buildings. PDQ reserves the XGT, rated to 3,000 lbf-in of torque resistance, for openings facing extreme abuse or vandalism.

Is the GT fire rated and ADA compliant?
Yes. The GT is UL 10C listed for 3 hour fire doors (single doors up to 4' x 8') and complies with ADA and ICC/ANSI 117.1.

Can the GT be used on hurricane rated openings in Florida?
Yes. It is approved for Florida HVHZ installations under PDQ Product Approval FL 21376, with a design load rating of +/- 70.0 PSF on a 3' x 7' single door.

PDQ GT141BSN626L – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the communicating function on the PDQ GT141 actually do?
The GT141 is the ANSI/BHMA F80 communicating function: a single cylinder lock, keyed on one side only, with both levers always retracting the latch. It is the lock used on a connecting door between two rooms, where the key side controls access and the other side stays free to operate. Because it is latch-only with no deadbolt, it is not a privacy or a storeroom lock. If you need key control from both sides or a locked outside lever, a different GT function is the right pick.
2) Will the PDQ GT141 fit a 2-inch thick door, or only 1-3/4?
It covers 1-3/4 inch through 2-1/4 inch doors, and it ships preset for 1-3/4 inch, so a 2 inch door just needs the chassis adjusted on install. The door prep is the standard ANSI A156.115 (161) cylindrical bore, and it mounts with through-door thru-bolting.
3) Can I key the PDQ GT141 into my existing Schlage or Best master key system?
Yes, in most common systems. Conventional cylinders ship SCC (Schlage C compatible) as standard, and keyway choices also include Schlage E and C-K, Arrow AR1, Corbin 59A1, 60 and L4, Russwin D1, Sargent LA and RA-RC, Accentra (Yale) E1R and GA, Falcon E-R, 5-pin Kwikset, and PDQ's restricted TA. For interchangeable core systems, the SFIC prep takes 6 or 7-pin small format cores compatible with Best, Falcon and Arrow. Keying can be ordered KD, 0-bitted, KA2, KA4, KA, master keyed, master keyed to existing bittings, or construction master keyed. Two keys come with each lock.
4) Can I use the GT141 on a labeled 3-hour fire door?
Yes. The GT lever lock is UL 10C listed for 3 hour fire doors on single doors up to 4 feet by 8 feet, and it is fire rated as supplied. It also complies with ADA and ICC/ANSI 117.1, so the lever meets accessible operation requirements.
5) Does the GT141 need to be ordered left hand or right hand?
No handing to specify. The GT lever lock is non-handed, so one lock covers either swing and you can stock a single part number across a building.
6) Is a Grade 1 cylindrical lock like the PDQ GT needed for a school corridor, or is Grade 2 enough?
The GT is certified to ANSI/BHMA A156.2 Grade 1 heavy duty, with 2,200 lbf-in of lever torque resistance (three times the BHMA/ANSI standard) and cycle testing past three times the standard. Grade 1 is what school, office and retail corridor traffic calls for, and it is what most commercial specs require. Grade 2 is a light commercial or multi-family interior choice. Where the opening faces outright abuse or vandalism, PDQ points to the XGT at 3,000 lbf-in instead.
7) Which lever style and finish combinations can I get on the PDQ GT141?
Three lever styles, Philadelphia, Boston and Miami, all solid diecast on a 3-3/8 inch diameter wrought brass rose with concealed screws. Seven finishes: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 619 satin nickel, 622 flat black, 625 bright chrome and 626 satin chrome. If you want large format interchangeable core, note that LFIC is offered on the Philadelphia lever only. Split finishes can be ordered to match different corridor and room side schemes.
8) What options should I be specifying on a GT141 order besides finish and lever?
Backset (234 or 238), strike (ASA, full lip or T-strike), keyway and keying, and cylinder prep are the four that affect fit and keying. Beyond those: tactile abrasive coating inside, outside or both sides for hazardous-room identification, antimicrobial coating and weatherized finish (both 626 satin chrome only), lead-lined rose for imaging rooms, dust box, split finishes, request to exit, and an industry standard Molex connector. Each combination carries its own PDQ part number, for example GT141PHL605D.
9) Can the PDQ GT lever lock be used on a hurricane rated opening in Florida?
Yes. It holds PDQ Product Approval FL 21376 for Florida HVHZ installations, with a design load rating of plus or minus 70.0 PSF on a 3 by 7 foot single door.
10) Why does the GT141 lever rotate further on a pair of doors?
Lever rotation is 41 degrees standard with the 2-3/4 inch backset, which comes from the 2:1 latchbolt throw and keeps operating torque low. On double doors using the 2-3/4 inch latch for that application, rotation goes to 65 degrees. Worth knowing if you are matching feel across a building where some openings are pairs.
11) Is the PDQ GT141 an electronic or access control lock?
No, the GT141 is a mechanical key-operated cylindrical lever lock, not electronic. Request to exit and a Molex connector can be added as monitoring options, but the lock itself is keyed mechanical with a single cylinder.
