PDQ GT125 Grade 1 Communicating Cylindrical Lever Lock

Grade 1 Heavy Duty Commercial Cylindrical Lock

The PDQ GT125 is the Communicating function of the PDQ GT Series Grade 1 Heavy Duty Cylindrical Lock.

The PDQ GT Series is a Grade 1 heavy duty cylindrical lock certified to ANSI/BHMA A156.2. PDQ positions it as its general purpose Grade 1 lock for everyday commercial exterior and interior openings, with lever torque resistance of 2,200 lbf-in, three times the BHMA/ANSI standard, and cycle testing to over 3 times BHMA standards.

A heavy duty diecast chassis, machined billet steel spindles and a 13 gauge steel anti-rotation plate on the secure side give the lock its strength. A 2:1 latchbolt throw allows a 41 degree lever rotation, which reduces torque and extends the life of the lock. The GT is non-handed, assembled in Lancaster, PA, and offered in Philadelphia, Boston and Miami lever styles.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the GT strong enough for a busy school or office building, or is the XGT needed?
The GT handles standard to heavy commercial traffic and covers most exterior and interior doors in schools, offices and retail buildings. PDQ reserves the XGT, rated to 3,000 lbf-in of torque resistance, for openings facing extreme abuse or vandalism.

Is the GT fire rated and ADA compliant?
Yes. The GT is UL 10C listed for 3 hour fire doors (single doors up to 4' x 8') and complies with ADA and ICC/ANSI 117.1.

Can the GT be used on hurricane rated openings in Florida?
Yes. It is approved for Florida HVHZ installations under PDQ Product Approval FL 21376, with a design load rating of +/- 70.0 PSF on a 3' x 7' single door.

PDQ GT125BSN626 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the communicating function on the PDQ GT125 lever lock actually do?
The GT125 is the communicating function in PDQ's GT Series cylindrical line, and it is non-keyed. There is no cylinder and no key on either side; both levers retract the latch at all times. It is the function used between two adjoining rooms, like connecting hotel or patient rooms or a suite with a shared door, where you want a latched door that either side can always operate. If you need key control on that opening, you need a keyed GT function instead.
2) Will the PDQ GT125 fit a 2-inch thick door, or only 1-3/4 inch?
It covers 1-3/4 inch through 2-1/4 inch doors and ships preset for 1-3/4 inch, so a 2 inch door is within range and just needs the lock adjusted at install. Mounting is through-door thru-bolting into the standard ANSI A156.115 (161) cylindrical prep, so no special prep for the thicker leaf.
3) Can the GT125 drop into an existing 161 cylindrical prep with a 2-3/8 inch backset?
Yes. The 2-3/4 inch backset is standard, but a 2-3/8 inch backset is orderable and is a required selection when you order. Note the latch changes with it: 1/2 inch throw on the 2-3/8 inch backset, 9/16 inch throw on the 2-3/4 inch. Faceplate is 2-1/4 x 1-1/8 inches on the 2-3/4 backset and 2-1/4 x 1 inch on the 2-3/8.
4) Does the GT125 meet ADA for a school or healthcare corridor?
It complies with ADA and ICC/ANSI 117.1. The lever is operable without grasping or twisting, and the 41 degree rotation with the 2-3/4 inch backset keeps the required effort low. It is also certified to ANSI/BHMA A156.2 Grade 1, which is the usual institutional specification.
5) Can the GT125 be keyed to match the other locks in my building?
No, and this is the one to watch. The GT125 is the communicating function and is non-keyed, so there is no cylinder to key. For keyed openings in the same GT Series, PDQ offers conventional cylinders with SCC (Schlage C compatible) keyway standard, or 6 and 7-pin small format interchangeable cores compatible with Best, Falcon and Arrow. Large format IC is only available on the Philadelphia lever.
6) Do I need to order the GT125 handed for a left or right swing door?
No handing to specify. The GT lever lock is non-handed, so one part number works on either swing and the levers can be field oriented. That makes it simple to carry a single stock item for a whole building.
7) Is a Grade 1 cylindrical lock like the GT enough for a busy school, or do I need the XGT?
The GT is PDQ's general purpose Grade 1 lock and takes standard to heavy commercial traffic, which covers most school, office and retail openings. It is rated at 2,200 lbf-in of lever torque resistance, three times the BHMA/ANSI minimum, with a diecast chassis and a 13 gauge steel anti-rotation plate on the secure side. PDQ saves the XGT, at 3,000 lbf-in, for openings that see extreme abuse or vandalism.
8) Which lever styles and finishes does the PDQ GT125 come in?
Three lever styles, Philadelphia, Boston and Miami, each available in all seven finishes: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 619 satin nickel, 622 flat black, 625 bright chrome and 626 satin chrome. That is 21 combinations, for example GT125PHL605 for a Philadelphia lever in bright brass. All use a 3-3/8 inch diameter wrought brass rose with concealed screws, so trim matches the rest of the GT Series on adjacent doors.
9) What options do I have to pick when ordering a PDQ GT125 besides finish and lever?
Backset and strike are both required selections. Beyond that the GT125 takes tactile abrasive coating (inside only, outside only, or both sides) for hazard-marked doors, a lead-lined rose for x-ray rooms, a dust box, request to exit, an industry standard Molex connector, split finishes, and on 626 satin chrome only, an antimicrobial coating and a weatherized finish.
10) Can the PDQ GT lever lock be used on a hurricane rated opening in Florida?
Yes. The GT Series carries Florida HVHZ approval under PDQ Product Approval FL 21376, with a design load of plus or minus 70.0 PSF on a 3 by 7 foot single door.
11) Is the GT125 an electrified lock, and what is the REX option for?
Mechanically operated, not an electronic lock. The request to exit (REX) option adds a switch that signals an access control panel when the inside lever is turned, and the ISMC Molex connector gives you a standard plug for that wiring. If you need an electrically locked or unlocked function, the GT125 communicating is not it.
12) Why does the lever rotation on the GT matter for a pair of doors?
Standard rotation is 41 degrees with the 2-3/4 inch backset, which is a short, low-torque throw that extends lock life. For double doors PDQ uses a 2-3/4 inch latch that rotates 65 degrees, so the latch retracts far enough to clear an astragal or inactive leaf condition. Call out the double door application when ordering so the correct latch comes with the lock.
13) Can I get two different finishes on the GT125, one for the corridor side and one for the room side?
Yes, order the SF split finish option. Designate the outside trim finish first, then the inside. It prices at the higher of the two finishes. Useful when a corridor is standardized on 626 satin chrome but the room side has to match brass trim.
14) Is there a healthcare or exterior version of the GT lever lock with an antimicrobial or weatherized finish?
Both are available, but only on 626 satin chrome. The antimicrobial coating (AM) covers the lever set including inside and outside levers and roses. The weatherized finish is the one to specify for exposed exterior openings. Neither can be applied to the brass, bronze, nickel, black or bright chrome finishes.
