PDQ GT145 Classroom / Security w/Locking Direction Arrow

Grade 1 Heavy Duty Commercial Cylindrical Lock

The PDQ GT145 is the Classroom / Security w/Locking Direction Arrow function (ANSI/BHMA F110) of the PDQ GT Series Grade 1 Heavy Duty Cylindrical Lock.

The PDQ GT Series is a Grade 1 heavy duty cylindrical lock certified to ANSI/BHMA A156.2. PDQ positions it as its general purpose Grade 1 lock for everyday commercial exterior and interior openings, with lever torque resistance of 2,200 lbf-in, three times the BHMA/ANSI standard, and cycle testing to over 3 times BHMA standards.

A heavy duty diecast chassis, machined billet steel spindles and a 13 gauge steel anti-rotation plate on the secure side give the lock its strength. A 2:1 latchbolt throw allows a 41 degree lever rotation, which reduces torque and extends the life of the lock. The GT is non-handed, assembled in Lancaster, PA, and offered in Philadelphia, Boston and Miami lever styles.

PDQ GT145BSN626L – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the PDQ GT145 classroom lock fit a 2-inch thick door, or is it only for 1-3/4 inch doors?
The GT145 covers doors from 1-3/4 inches up to 2-1/4 inches thick, so a 2-inch door is within range. It ships preset for 1-3/4 inches, so thicker doors need the chassis adjusted at install. Prep is the standard ANSI A156.115 (161) cylindrical bore with through-door thru-bolting.
2) Does the GT145 lock need to be ordered left or right hand?
No handing to specify. The GT145 is non-handed, so one lock covers either swing. The locking direction arrow on the inside lever shows which way to turn to lock, and that reads correctly whichever hand the door is.
3) What does the F110 classroom security function actually do, and is it right for a classroom lockdown?
F110 is the classroom security function: the inside lever has a keyed cylinder used to lock or unlock the outside lever, with an arrow marking the locking direction so a teacher can secure the door from inside without stepping into the corridor. The outside lever stays locked until keyed back; the inside lever always retracts the latch for free egress. PDQ lists the GT145 among the functions that meet California Education Code.
4) Can I key a PDQ GT145 into my existing Schlage, Best or Sargent master key system?
Yes, in most of the common keyways. Conventional cylinders come SCC (Schlage C compatible) as standard, and the keyway list also covers Schlage E and C-K, Arrow AR1, Corbin 59A1/60/L4, Russwin D1, Sargent LA and RA-RC, Accentra (Yale) E1R and GA, Falcon E-R, Kwikset (5-pin only), and PDQ's restricted TA. Keying options include keyed different, keyed alike, 0-bitted, master keyed, construction master keyed, or master keyed to existing bittings. For interchangeable core systems, the small format IC prep takes 6- or 7-pin cores compatible with Best, Falcon and Arrow; Schlage large format IC prep is available on the Philadelphia lever only.
5) Is the GT145 approved for a 3-hour fire rated classroom door?
Yes. The GT145 is UL 10C listed for 3-hour fire doors on single doors up to 4 feet by 8 feet, and the latch is deadlocking on both backset options. It is also certified to ANSI/BHMA A156.2 Grade 1 and complies with ADA and ICC/ANSI 117.1.
6) Should I order the 2-3/8 or the 2-3/4 inch backset on a PDQ GT series lever?
2-3/4 inches is the standard and is what most commercial hollow metal and wood doors are bored for. Order 2-3/8 inches only if the existing cross-bore centerline measures that from the door edge, common on older or residential-prep doors. The two differ beyond the bore: 2-3/4 gives a 9/16 inch latch throw and a 2-1/4 x 1-1/8 inch faceplate, while 2-3/8 gives a 1/2 inch throw and a 2-1/4 x 1 inch faceplate. Lever rotation is 41 degrees with the 2-3/4 backset.
7) Which lever style and finish combinations can I get on the PDQ GT145?
Three lever styles, Philadelphia, Boston and Miami, all solid diecast, in seven finishes: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 619 satin nickel, 622 flat black, 625 bright chrome and 626 satin chrome. Two constraints matter if you are standardizing a building: Schlage large format IC prep is offered on the Philadelphia lever only, and both the antimicrobial coating and the weatherized finish are available on 626 satin chrome only. Split finishes can be ordered if the corridor side and room side need to differ.
8) Can a PDQ GT series lock be used on an exterior door in a Florida hurricane zone?
Yes. The GT carries PDQ Product Approval FL 21376 for Florida HVHZ, with a design load of +/- 70.0 PSF on a 3 x 7 foot single door. For coastal exterior use, the weatherized finish option is worth specifying, though it is only offered on 626 satin chrome.
9) Is the PDQ GT heavy duty enough for a high traffic school corridor, or do I need the XGT?
For standard to heavy commercial traffic, including school, office and retail corridor doors, the GT is the general purpose Grade 1 choice. It resists 2,200 lbf-in of lever torque, three times the BHMA/ANSI minimum, on a diecast chassis with machined billet steel spindles and a 13 gauge steel anti-rotation plate on the secure side. Step up to the XGT, rated 3,000 lbf-in, only where the opening faces extreme abuse or deliberate vandalism.
10) What extras should I consider adding when ordering a GT145, and what comes in the box?
Two keys ship per lock, along with the chosen strike. Options worth deciding on at order time: dust box for the strike pocket, lead-lined rose for X-ray rooms, tactile abrasive coating inside, outside or both sides for hazardous-door identification, antimicrobial coating (626 only), split finishes, request to exit switch, and an industry standard Molex connector. Cylinder choice is also made on the order, from conventional, less cylinder, SFIC prep with 6-pin, 7-pin, construction, plastic construction or less core, and Schlage LFIC prep with Schlage core, construction core or less core.
11) Can the GT145 be installed on a pair of doors?
Yes, but note the lever rotation changes. With the standard 2-3/4 inch backset the lever rotates 41 degrees; using the 2-3/4 inch latch intended for double doors raises rotation to 65 degrees. The UL 10C 3-hour fire listing, however, is stated for single doors up to 4 by 8 feet.
12) Does the GT145 have an electric latch retraction or access control function?
No. The GT145 is a mechanical cylindrical lock, not an electrified one. The only electrical option is a request to exit switch, which signals that the inside lever has been turned, and it can be supplied with an industry standard Molex connector for wiring. Latch operation stays mechanical, so egress is unaffected by power loss.
13) What is the rose and faceplate size on the PDQ GT lever, and will it cover the old lock's wear marks?
The rose is 3-3/8 inches in diameter, wrought brass, with concealed screws. The front (faceplate) is 2-1/4 x 1-1/8 inches on the 2-3/4 inch backset, in stainless steel or wrought brass, beveled 1/8 inch in 2 inches; the 2-3/8 inch backset uses a 2-1/4 x 1 inch faceplate. Whether that hides marks from a previous lock depends on the trim it is replacing, so measure the existing rose diameter before committing.
