PDQ XGT135 Grade 1 Classroom / Security Cylindrical Lever Lock

Grade 1 Extra Heavy Duty Cylindrical Lock

The PDQ XGT135 is the Classroom / Security function (ANSI/BHMA F110) of the PDQ XGT Series Grade 1 Extra Heavy Duty Cylindrical Lock.

The PDQ XGT Series is an extra heavy duty cylindrical lock certified to ANSI/BHMA A156.2 Grade 1 and cycle tested to over 3 times the BHMA standard. A 2:1 latch bolt throw allows a 41 degree lever rotation with the 2-3/4" backset, which reduces torque and lengthens the life of the lock.

XGT is the step up from the GT Series for doors that face heavy abuse, with 3,000 lbf-in of lever torque resistance and a 13-gauge steel anti-rotation plate. It is assembled in Lancaster, PA.

Key Features

  • Heavy duty diecast chassis with investment cast, cold rolled steel and stainless steel mechanism
  • 13-gauge steel anti-rotation plate for added stability
  • 3,000 lbf-in lever torque resistance, about 4 times the ANSI/BHMA standard
  • Solid diecast Philadelphia, Boston or Miami levers on 3-3/8" wrought brass roses with concealed screws
  • Non-handed; fits doors 1-3/4" to 2-1/4" thick with through-bolted mounting and a standard ANSI A156.115 (161) prep
  • Keyed functions take a Schlage C compatible conventional cylinder, small format IC cores compatible with Best, Falcon and Arrow, or Schlage large format IC cores (Philadelphia lever only)
  • UL 10C listed for 3-hour fire doors, single doors up to 4' x 8', and approved for the Florida High Velocity Hurricane Zone

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the PDQ XGT and GT cylindrical locks?
Both are ANSI/BHMA Grade 1. XGT is rated for 3,000 lbf-in of lever torque resistance, about 4 times the ANSI/BHMA standard, versus 2,200 lbf-in for GT. XGT also uses a 13-gauge steel anti-rotation plate and is cycle tested to over 3 times BHMA standards.

Is the XGT lock fire rated?
Yes. XGT is UL listed for 3-hour fire doors on single doors up to 4'0" x 8'0", meeting UL 10C requirements.

What door thicknesses and backsets fit the XGT lock?
XGT fits doors 1-3/4" to 2-1/4" thick (preset for 1-3/4") with a 2-3/8" or 2-3/4" backset, and it is non-handed, so one unit installs on any door hand.

PDQ XGT135BSN626L – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the PDQ XGT135 fit a 2-inch thick door, or only a standard 1-3/4 inch door?
The XGT135 cylindrical lever lock covers doors from 1-3/4 inches up to 2-1/4 inches thick. It ships preset for 1-3/4 inches, so a 2-inch door just needs the spindle and thru-bolt adjustment at install. Mounting is through-door thru-bolting into a standard ANSI A156.115 (161) cylindrical prep, so it drops into an existing 161 bore without new machining.
2) Does the XGT135 come in a 2-3/8 inch backset for a shallow prep, and does the latch throw change?
Both backsets are orderable. Standard is 2-3/4 inches with a 9/16 inch latchbolt throw and a 2-1/4 x 1-1/8 inch faceplate; the 2-3/8 inch option gives a 1/2 inch throw and a 2-1/4 x 1 inch faceplate. Both latches are deadlocking. If you are replacing a lock in an existing door, measure from the door edge to the center of the bore and order to match, because the faceplate size differs between the two.
3) Do I need to order a left-hand and right-hand version of the PDQ XGT135?
No. The XGT135 is non-handed, so one unit installs on any door hand, inswing or outswing. That is useful for a property manager or MRO stockroom carrying one spare for a whole building instead of two.
4) What exactly does the Classroom / Security function do on the PDQ XGT135?
Classroom / Security is ANSI/BHMA F110, and on the XGT135 it is a single-cylinder lock: the key in the outside lever locks and unlocks the outside lever. The inside lever is always free for egress, and there is no inside thumbturn or button, so a student cannot lock the door. The outside lever is locked and unlocked only by key. The XGT135 is also called out as California Education Code compliant along with the XGT135LED and XGT145.
5) Can the PDQ XGT135 be keyed into an existing Schlage or Best master key system?
Yes, within the cylinder options. Keyed configurations take a Schlage C compatible conventional cylinder (SCC is standard), small format interchangeable cores compatible with Best, Falcon and Arrow, or Schlage large format IC cores (LFIC is Philadelphia lever only). Keyways offered include Schlage C, C-K and E, Arrow AR1, Corbin 59A1, 60 and L4, Russwin D1, Sargent LA and RA-RC, Accentra (Yale) E1R and GA, Falcon E-R, Kwikset in 5-pin only, and PDQ restricted TA. Keying choices run from keyed different and keyed alike groups through master keyed, master keyed to existing bittings, construction master keyed, and 0-bitted with two blank keys if your locksmith pins it. Keyed locks ship with two keys.
6) Is the PDQ XGT135 approved for a 3-hour fire rated stairwell door?
Yes. The XGT135 is UL 10C listed for 3-hour fire doors on single doors up to 4 feet by 8 feet. Stairwells are one of the applications PDQ calls out for the XGT series, along with high-traffic exterior entries and doors facing abuse or vandalism. For fire door use, order the dust box option if your door manufacturer requires the latch pocket lined.
7) Should I specify the PDQ XGT or the GT series cylindrical lock?
Both are ANSI/BHMA A156.2 Grade 1. The difference is abuse resistance: XGT resists 3,000 lbf-in of lever torque versus 2,200 lbf-in for GT, adds a 13-gauge steel anti-rotation plate, and is cycle tested to over three times BHMA standard. Spend the money on XGT where the door takes vandalism or very heavy traffic, such as a school corridor or exterior entry. GT is the sensible pick for interior offices and lower-traffic openings.
8) What strike comes with the PDQ XGT135 and will it match my existing frame cutout?
The standard strike is ASA, 1-1/4 x 4-7/8 inches, which is what most hollow metal commercial frames are prepped for. Two alternates are orderable: a full lip strike at 1-5/8 x 2-1/4 inches and a T-strike at 1-1/8 x 2-3/4 inches. Pick the T-strike for a narrow wood frame prep and the full lip strike where you need more lip coverage over the jamb.
9) Which lever styles and finishes does the PDQ XGT135 come in, and do they affect the cylinder choice?
Three lever styles: Philadelphia, Boston and Miami, all solid diecast on 3-3/8 inch wrought brass roses with concealed screws. Seven finishes: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 619 satin nickel, 622 flat black, 625 bright chrome and 626 satin chrome. Lever choice does matter for keying: Schlage large format IC cores are available on the Philadelphia lever only, while Boston and Miami take small format cores or the conventional cylinder. Two options are 626 satin chrome only, the antimicrobial coating and the weatherized finish.
10) Does the PDQ XGT135 meet ADA requirements for lever operation?
The XGT135 complies with ADA and ICC/ANSI 117.1. The lever design helps, and so does the mechanism: a 2:1 latch bolt throw lets the lever operate with only 41 degrees of rotation at the 2-3/4 inch backset, which cuts the torque a user has to apply. For visually impaired signalling on hazardous-area doors, tactile abrasive coating is orderable inside only, outside only, or both sides.
11) Can the PDQ XGT135 be used on a pair of doors?
Yes, with the right latch. PDQ lists a 65 degree lever rotation using the 2-3/4 inch latch for double doors, versus the standard 41 degree rotation. Note the UL fire listing is for single doors up to 4 feet by 8 feet, so on a fire rated pair confirm the opening against your door and frame label rather than relying on the lock listing alone.
12) Is the PDQ XGT135 rated for a hurricane zone exterior entry in Florida?
It is approved for the Florida High Velocity Hurricane Zone under PDQ Product Approval FL 21376, with a design load of plus or minus 70.0 PSF on a single 3 by 7 foot door. For coastal exterior use, the weatherized finish option is available in 626 satin chrome only.
13) Can the PDQ XGT135 send a signal to an access control panel when someone exits?
Yes. Request to Exit (REX) is an orderable option on the XGT135, and an Industry Standard Molex Connector (ISMC) can be specified to terminate it. The lock itself is mechanical, not electronic, so REX gives you the inside-lever signal for monitoring or shunting an alarm, not electric locking. If you need the lock to release electrically, this is not the right chassis.
14) What options should a hospital or lab specify on the PDQ XGT135?
Two matter for healthcare. The antimicrobial coating (AM) covers the lever set including inside and outside levers and roses, and is offered in 626 satin chrome only. For X-ray and imaging rooms, a lead-lined rose (LL) is orderable so the lock does not break the shielding in the door. Split finishes are also available if the corridor side has to match different trim than the room side, designating the outside trim first.
15) What is the PDQ XGT135 latch front made of and how is it beveled?
The front measures 2-1/4 by 1-1/8 inches in stainless steel or wrought brass, beveled 1/8 inch in 2 inches, which is the standard bevel for a swinging door edge. The chassis behind it is heavy duty diecast with investment cast, chromated cold rolled steel and stainless steel mechanism parts, and locking functions use billet steel spindles.
16) How do I write up a PDQ XGT135 part number for a submittal?
Each configuration carries its own PDQ number, built from the model, lever, finish and options, for example XGT135PHL605D. Beyond lever style, finish and cylinder type, the order form asks you to call out backset, strike, keyway and keying, plus any of the extras: tactile abrasive coating, split finishes, lead-lined rose, dust box, antimicrobial coating, request to exit, Molex connector and weatherized finish.
