PDQ HSCCAM1 High Security Adams Rite Type Cam

PDQ High Security Cylinders, Cores and Cams

PDQ High Security cylinders and cores add mechanical barriers that a standard pin tumbler core does not have, resisting drilling, picking and casual key copying. The family covers key in knob/lever cylinders, mortise/rim combo and mortise cylinders, small format (SFIC) and large format Schlage compatible (LFIC) interchangeable cores, and high security cams for the mortise cylinders.

Two levels are offered. Standard High Security cylinders use two hardened anti-drill pins and a proprietary PDQ keyway with a sidebar. High Security cylinders and cores use a minimum of 11 anti-drill and stainless steel pins. Because the sidebar keyway blank is not a standard retail key wall profile, duplication is limited to controlled sources.

  • Cams to suit Adams Rite, Accentra (Yale), Russwin/PDQ, Falcon, Schlage and Sargent offset type mortise applications

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes a cylinder core high security instead of standard?
PDQ High Security cores add hardened anti-drill pins plus a proprietary keyway with a sidebar, mechanical barriers a standard pin tumbler core does not have. A standard core relies on the pin stack alone.

Which PDQ products do the high security cores work with?
PDQ lists them as compatible with its GP, SD and CL Series Grade 2 locks, KV Series deadbolts, and trim including 6T thumb latches, 4P plate pulls, 4GW grip pulls and 6S rose trim.

Is PDQ High Security the same as the VAULT keying system?
No. High Security is a proprietary sidebar keyway with hardened anti-drill pins in a familiar cylinder format. VAULT is a separate PDQ platform built around a patented tapered gate (U.S. Patent #12338653).

PDQ HSCCAM1 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the PDQ HSCCAM1 cam actually do, and is a cylinder included?
The HSCCAM1 is just the cam, the driver tab that bolts to the back of a PDQ High Security mortise cylinder and turns the lock's retractor. It is an Adams Rite type cam, so it suits Adams Rite offset type mortise applications. No cylinder, no keys come with the cam itself; PDQ ships 2 cut keys with the cylinders, not with the cam. Order the mortise cylinder separately and match the cam to the lock body you are driving.
2) I have a Yale, Sargent or Falcon mortise lock, not Adams Rite. Can I use the HSCCAM1 cam?
No. The HSCCAM1 is cut specifically for Adams Rite type applications. PDQ makes separate cams in the High Security family to suit Accentra (Yale), Russwin/PDQ, Falcon, Schlage and Sargent offset type mortise locks, so pick the cam that matches your lock body rather than forcing this one. The cam shape is what determines whether the cylinder actually throws the lock.
3) Can I get PDQ High Security cylinders 0-bitted and cut my own keys?
No. PDQ does not supply the High Security line 0 bitted, and key blanks for high security cylinders are not sold. That is the point of the system: the keyway is a proprietary PDQ sidebar profile that is not a standard retail key wall blank, so duplication stays with controlled sources. If your locksmith needs to pin and cut in house, this family is the wrong choice.
4) Will PDQ High Security cylinders key into the rest of my PDQ hardware?
PDQ lists the High Security cores as compatible with its GP, SD and CL Series Grade 2 locks, KV Series deadbolts, and trim including 6T thumb latches, 4P plate pulls, 4GW grip pulls and 6S rose trim. So a building already standardized on PDQ can bring the Adams Rite style mortise openings onto the same high security key system using the HSCCAM1 cam on the mortise cylinder.
5) Which PDQ mortise cylinder lengths does the High Security line come in for an Adams Rite application?
PDQ High Security mortise cylinders are offered at 1-1/4 inch and 1-1/2 inch, plus a 1-1/8 inch mortise/rim combo. For a narrow stile aluminum door with an Adams Rite style lock, the shorter cylinder is usually what clears the stile, while thicker doors or deeper prep take the 1-1/2 inch. The HSCCAM1 cam mounts to the mortise cylinder you choose.
6) Why does the HSCCAM1 cam ask me to pick a keying option?
Keying is a required selection because the cam is ordered as part of a high security cylinder assembly. The three choices are KD (keyed different), KA (keyed alike) and MK (master keyed, which carries a master keying charge). If you are standardizing a group of doors in one building, KA puts them all on one key; MK lets a maintenance key run them while each tenant keeps a separate change key.
7) What makes PDQ High Security different from a standard pin tumbler cylinder for a records room or pharmacy cabinet?
Two mechanical barriers a standard core does not have. Standard High Security cylinders use 2 hardened anti-drill pins plus the proprietary PDQ sidebar keyway, a second locking element separate from the pin stack. The High Security level steps up to a minimum of 11 anti-drill and stainless steel pins. PDQ points the family at server and data rooms, evidence and records storage, pharmacy or narcotics cabinets and exterior perimeter entries, where casual key copying and drilling are the real threats.
8) Is this the same thing as the PDQ VAULT key system?
No, they are two separate platforms. High Security is a proprietary sidebar keyway with hardened anti-drill pins in a conventional cylinder format, which is why it drops into familiar mortise, rim, SFIC and LFIC housings. VAULT is a different PDQ system built around a patented tapered gate (U.S. Patent #12338653). Keys and cores do not cross between them, so decide which platform the facility standardizes on before you order cams and cylinders.
9) Should I use a mortise cylinder with a cam or an interchangeable core for my high security openings?
It depends on who rekeys the building. A mortise cylinder with the correct cam, like the Adams Rite type HSCCAM1, is the right call when the lock body takes a threaded mortise cylinder and the keying is not going to change often. If you want maintenance staff to swap cores without pulling hardware, go to the interchangeable core instead: PDQ offers SFIC cores in 6-pin and 7-pin and an LFIC Schlage compatible 6-pin core. Note that LFIC mortise and rim housings do not include the IC core, so that gets ordered separately.
10) Is the PDQ HSCCAM1 cam meant for commercial or residential use?
Commercial door hardware. The High Security cam and the cylinders it mates to are built for commercial openings, and PDQ lists the compatible lock bodies as Grade 2 GP, SD and CL Series. For a house you would not normally go to a restricted sidebar keyway, since key duplication is limited to controlled sources.
