PDQ HSCCAM3 High Security Russwin Type Cam / PDQ Cam

PDQ High Security Cylinders, Cores and Cams

PDQ High Security cylinders and cores add mechanical barriers that a standard pin tumbler core does not have, resisting drilling, picking and casual key copying. The family covers key in knob/lever cylinders, mortise/rim combo and mortise cylinders, small format (SFIC) and large format Schlage compatible (LFIC) interchangeable cores, and high security cams for the mortise cylinders.

Two levels are offered. Standard High Security cylinders use two hardened anti-drill pins and a proprietary PDQ keyway with a sidebar. High Security cylinders and cores use a minimum of 11 anti-drill and stainless steel pins. Because the sidebar keyway blank is not a standard retail key wall profile, duplication is limited to controlled sources.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes a cylinder core high security instead of standard?
PDQ High Security cores add hardened anti-drill pins plus a proprietary keyway with a sidebar, mechanical barriers a standard pin tumbler core does not have. A standard core relies on the pin stack alone.

Which PDQ products do the high security cores work with?
PDQ lists them as compatible with its GP, SD and CL Series Grade 2 locks, KV Series deadbolts, and trim including 6T thumb latches, 4P plate pulls, 4GW grip pulls and 6S rose trim.

Is PDQ High Security the same as the VAULT keying system?
No. High Security is a proprietary sidebar keyway with hardened anti-drill pins in a familiar cylinder format. VAULT is a separate PDQ platform built around a patented tapered gate (U.S. Patent #12338653).

PDQ HSCCAM3 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the PDQ HSCCAM3 cam actually do, and is it a cylinder?
The HSCCAM3 is a cam only, not a cylinder. It is the Russwin type (also called the PDQ type) cam that mounts to the back of a PDQ High Security mortise cylinder so the cylinder can drive the lock case it is going into. If you need the locking cylinder itself, order a mortise cylinder separately; the cam is the drive tailpiece that matches it to the lock.
2) Which cam do I order if my mortise lock is Schlage, Sargent, Yale or Adams Rite instead of Russwin?
The HSCCAM3 is the Russwin/PDQ cam specifically. PDQ offers High Security cams to suit Adams Rite, Accentra (Yale), Russwin/PDQ, Falcon, Schlage and Sargent offset type mortise applications, so if your lock case is one of the others, take the matching cam from that group rather than the HSCCAM3. Getting the cam wrong means the cylinder turns but the lock does not retract.
3) Can my local hardware store cut extra keys for a PDQ High Security cylinder?
No. The keyway is a proprietary PDQ sidebar profile that is not on a standard retail key wall, so duplication is limited to controlled sources. PDQ also does not sell key blanks for high security cylinders, and the cylinders are not available 0 bitted. Cylinders ship with 2 cut keys; cores include keying charges and 2 cut keys. Order the key count you need up front.
4) Will this cam work with a standard pin tumbler mortise cylinder, or only high security?
It is part of the PDQ High Security cylinder, core and cam family, intended for the High Security mortise cylinders in that line. Those mortise cylinders come in 1-1/4 inch and 1-1/2 inch lengths, with a 1-1/8 inch mortise/rim combo also in the family. Pair the cam with a PDQ High Security mortise cylinder of the length your lock case prep needs.
5) Why is a keying option required on a cam order?
Keying is selected on the order because the cam is ordered as part of a High Security cylinder package, and the choices are KD (keyed different), KA (keyed alike) or MK (master keyed, with a master keying charge). If you are standardizing a building, KA across a group of openings or MK under a facility master is what keeps one key working the way your staff expects.
6) What makes PDQ High Security different from a standard core, in practical terms?
Two mechanical barriers a standard core does not have: hardened anti-drill pins and a sidebar that must be lifted separately from the pin stack. Standard High Security uses 2 hardened anti-drill pins; the High Security level uses a minimum of 11 anti-drill and stainless steel pins. A standard pin tumbler core relies on the pin stack alone, which is what makes it easier to pick, drill, or casually copy.
7) Is this part of the PDQ VAULT system?
No. PDQ High Security and PDQ VAULT are separate platforms. High Security is a proprietary sidebar keyway with hardened anti-drill pins in a conventional cylinder format; VAULT is built around a patented tapered gate (U.S. Patent #12338653). Keys and cylinders do not cross between them, so pick one platform per keying system.
8) Which PDQ locks and trim can I key into this High Security system?
PDQ lists its High Security cores as compatible with GP, SD and CL Series Grade 2 locks, KV Series deadbolts, and trim including 6T thumb latches, 4P plate pulls, 4GW grip pulls and 6S rose trim. That is useful if you are keying a whole building alike across locksets, deadbolts and exit trim on one key.
9) Is this suitable for residential doors or is it a commercial part?
Commercial. The High Security cylinder line is specified for openings like server and data rooms, evidence and records storage, pharmacy or narcotics cabinets, and exterior perimeter entries, where restricted key control and drill resistance matter more than a retail-duplicable key.
