PDQ I5206 Interchangeable Core, 6-Pin, Uncombinated

Small and Large Format Interchangeable Cores

PDQ interchangeable cores let staff rekey a door by removing the core with a control key and installing a new one, without taking the lock off the door or repinning it in place. That restores security quickly when a key is lost or stolen.

PDQ makes small format (SFIC) cores in 6 and 7-pin that swap with Best, Falcon and Arrow cores, and Schlage-format large format (LFIC) 6-pin cores. Cores come uncombinated, without springs and pins, or combinated, which includes master keying.

Key Features

  • SFIC cores in 6 or 7-pin, compatible with Best, Falcon and Arrow housings
  • LFIC cores follow the Schlage large format (SCC keyway), 6-pin only
  • Uncombinated cores ship without springs and pins; combinated cores include master keying
  • Best compatible keyways plus PDQ1, PDQ2 and PDQ3 (restricted) keyways; PDQ keyways are combinated only
  • Control keys are ordered separately
  • Fits PDQ locks, deadbolts and exit device trim that take interchangeable cores, such as the MR, GT, KM, KV and MJ and the 6W, 6N, 6C, 4EW and 4EN trim

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an interchangeable core?
An interchangeable core is a lock core that comes out of the lock with a control key, so a door is rekeyed by swapping the core instead of taking the lock apart. The lock stays on the door, and staff can restore security within seconds after a key is lost.

What is the difference between small format and large format interchangeable cores?
Small format interchangeable cores (SFIC) use a plug smaller than the standard 1/2" and swap with any other SFIC housing, including Best, Falcon and Arrow. Large format interchangeable cores (LFIC) use the same key families as conventional cylinders and usually fit only one manufacturer's locks. PDQ SFIC cores come in 6 or 7-pin, and PDQ LFIC cores follow the Schlage format.

Do I need a locksmith to rekey a PDQ interchangeable core?
No. Trained facility staff can remove and replace a core with a control key, without disassembling the lockset.

PDQ I5206626 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the PDQ I5206 core come with pins and springs, or do I have to pin it myself?
The I5206 is an uncombinated core, so it ships without springs and pins. A locksmith or in-house shop pins and keys it to your system. If you want the core to arrive keyed, with master keying included, order a combinated core instead. The PDQ1, PDQ2 and PDQ3 exclusive keyways are only offered combinated, so they are not an option on an uncombinated core.
2) Will a PDQ I5206 core drop into Best, Falcon or Arrow housings?
Yes, in small format. PDQ SFIC cores are built to swap with Best, Falcon and Arrow cores, so the I5206 ordered in any of the Best keyways (A through R, including WA, WB, WC, WG, WH, TB, TD, TE) fits those housings. If you instead select the SCC keyway you are getting the Schlage large format core, which does not interchange with SFIC housings.
3) What is the difference between the SFIC keyway choices and the SCC option on the PDQ I5206?
Keyway is the decision that sets the format. Picking a Best-family or PDQ keyway gives you a small format interchangeable core, with a plug smaller than the standard 1/2 inch, that will go into any SFIC housing. Picking SCC gives you a Schlage C large format core, which uses conventional key families and generally fits only Schlage-format locks. SCC is 6-pin only, which matches the I5206 anyway since it is a 6-pin core.
4) Which PDQ locks and exit device trim accept the I5206 interchangeable core?
It fits PDQ locks, deadbolts and exit device trim built for interchangeable cores, specifically the MR, GT, KM, KV and MJ lock lines and the 6W, 6N, 6C, 4EW and 4EN trim. If the PDQ lock on the door was ordered for a conventional cylinder rather than an IC prep, an interchangeable core will not seat in it.
5) Do I get a control key with the PDQ I5206 core?
No. Control keys are ordered separately. You need one to pull and replace the core, so if your facility does not already have the control key for that keyway and system, add it to the order or the cores cannot be installed or removed.
6) I need 7-pin SFIC cores for an existing Best system. Is the I5206 the right part?
No. The I5206 is a 6-pin core. PDQ makes SFIC cores in both 6 and 7-pin, so if your existing system is keyed 7-pin you need the 7-pin PDQ SFIC core, not this one. Pin count has to match the system you are keying into.
7) Can facility maintenance staff rekey a PDQ interchangeable core, or does it need a locksmith?
Trained in-house staff can do the swap. The core comes out with a control key and a new core goes in, with the lockset staying assembled on the door. That is what makes this practical for schools, multi-tenant offices and apartments with turnover. Keep in mind the I5206 is uncombinated, so someone still has to pin and key the core before it goes on a door.
8) What finishes does the PDQ I5206 core come in, and will it match the lever I already have?
Four finishes: 606 satin brass, 626 satin chrome, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze and 622 flat black. Match the core finish to the lock or trim finish code on the door, since the core face is visible. Each combination carries its own part number, for example I5206606 in satin brass or I5206626 in satin chrome.
9) Are the PDQ1, PDQ2 and PDQ3 keyways restricted?
PDQ3 is the exclusive and restricted keyway of the three; PDQ1 and PDQ2 are PDQ exclusive SFIC keyways. All three are supplied combinated only, so they are not available on an uncombinated core. Choose a restricted keyway when you want to control unauthorized key duplication across a campus or multi-tenant building.
10) Is the PDQ I5206 core a commercial-duty part?
It is a commercial door hardware item, intended for institutional and multi-tenant keying programs rather than residential one-off use. Typical applications are schools and campuses that rekey often, multi-tenant offices, and apartment buildings with tenant turnover.
