PDQ I5207-1 SFIC Interchangeable Core, 7-Pin, Combinated

Small and Large Format Interchangeable Cores

PDQ interchangeable cores let staff rekey a door by removing the core with a control key and installing a new one, without taking the lock off the door or repinning it in place. That restores security quickly when a key is lost or stolen.

PDQ makes small format (SFIC) cores in 6 and 7-pin that swap with Best, Falcon and Arrow cores, and Schlage-format large format (LFIC) 6-pin cores. Cores come uncombinated, without springs and pins, or combinated, which includes master keying.

Key Features

  • SFIC cores in 6 or 7-pin, compatible with Best, Falcon and Arrow housings
  • LFIC cores follow the Schlage large format (SCC keyway), 6-pin only
  • Uncombinated cores ship without springs and pins; combinated cores include master keying
  • Best compatible keyways plus PDQ1, PDQ2 and PDQ3 (restricted) keyways; PDQ keyways are combinated only
  • Control keys are ordered separately
  • Fits PDQ locks, deadbolts and exit device trim that take interchangeable cores, such as the MR, GT, KM, KV and MJ and the 6W, 6N, 6C, 4EW and 4EN trim

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an interchangeable core?
An interchangeable core is a lock core that comes out of the lock with a control key, so a door is rekeyed by swapping the core instead of taking the lock apart. The lock stays on the door, and staff can restore security within seconds after a key is lost.

What is the difference between small format and large format interchangeable cores?
Small format interchangeable cores (SFIC) use a plug smaller than the standard 1/2" and swap with any other SFIC housing, including Best, Falcon and Arrow. Large format interchangeable cores (LFIC) use the same key families as conventional cylinders and usually fit only one manufacturer's locks. PDQ SFIC cores come in 6 or 7-pin, and PDQ LFIC cores follow the Schlage format.

Do I need a locksmith to rekey a PDQ interchangeable core?
No. Trained facility staff can remove and replace a core with a control key, without disassembling the lockset.

PDQ I52071626 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will a PDQ I5207-1 7-pin core drop into my existing Best SFIC housings?
Yes. The PDQ I5207-1 is a small format interchangeable core, and PDQ SFIC cores swap with Best, Falcon and Arrow cores and housings. You pull the old core with a control key and drop the new one in without removing the lock from the door. Keyways offered include the Best families A through R plus WA, WB, WC, WG, WH, TB, TD and TE, so you can match what is already keyed in the building.
2) What is the difference between the 7-pin PDQ SFIC core and the 6-pin version?
Both are small format cores that fit the same SFIC housings; the pin count has to match the key system you already run. If your facility was built on a 7-pin Best-compatible system, the I5207-1 7-pin core is the one that keys into it. If your existing keys and master system are 6-pin, order the 6-pin SFIC core instead. PDQ's large format (LFIC) cores are a separate thing entirely and come in 6-pin only.
3) Does "combinated" mean the PDQ I5207-1 core comes pinned and keyed, or do I have to pin it myself?
Combinated means the core arrives already built with springs and pins and set up to a key, including master keying. That is the option for facility staff who do not pin their own cylinders. PDQ's uncombinated cores ship without springs and pins for a locksmith or in-house shop that keys its own system.
4) Is a control key included with the PDQ core, or do I order it separately?
Control keys are ordered separately. Without one you cannot remove or install the core, so if this is the first interchangeable core work in the building, add a control key to the order for that keyway. Once you have it, trained maintenance staff can rekey a door in seconds with no locksmith and no lock disassembly.
5) Which PDQ locks and exit device trims accept the I5207-1 interchangeable core?
It fits PDQ locks, deadbolts and exit device trim prepped for interchangeable cores: the MR, GT, KM, KV and MJ locks, and the 6W, 6N, 6C, 4EW and 4EN trims. If the lock was ordered with a conventional cylinder prep rather than an IC prep, the core will not go in.
6) Do I have to specify a keyway when ordering the PDQ I5207-1, or does it ship in a default?
Keyway is a required selection, along with finish. There is no default. Choose the Best-compatible letter that matches your existing system (A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, J, K, L, M, Q, R, WA, WB, WC, WG, WH, TB, TD or TE) or one of the PDQ exclusive keyways. The SCC Schlage C option is large format and 6-pin only, so it does not apply to a 7-pin small format core.
7) Should I use an SFIC core or a large format Schlage-style core for my building?
Pick SFIC when you want cores that move between housings from more than one maker. The small format plug is smaller than the standard 1/2 inch and interchanges with Best, Falcon and Arrow housings, which is why campuses and multi-tenant buildings standardize on it. Large format cores use the same key families as conventional cylinders and generally only fit one manufacturer's locks; PDQ's LFIC follows the Schlage SCC keyway and is 6-pin only. The I5207-1 is the 7-pin small format core.
8) Can I order the PDQ 7-pin core in the PDQ1, PDQ2 or PDQ3 restricted keyway?
Yes, and those keyways are only sold combinated, which is what the I5207-1 is. PDQ1 and PDQ2 are PDQ exclusive keyways and PDQ3 is exclusive and restricted, useful when you want key blanks that are not freely duplicated off the shelf. Best-compatible keyways are also available if you need to stay in an existing system.
9) We have constant tenant turnover. Is swapping cores actually faster than rekeying the lock?
Considerably. With an interchangeable core, a lost or stolen key is handled by pulling the core with a control key and dropping in a different one, so the lock never comes off the door and nothing is repinned in place. Keep a small stock of combinated cores on the shelf and turnover becomes a one-minute job per door. That is the usual reason schools, multi-tenant offices and apartment buildings run this system.
10) What finishes does the PDQ 7-pin interchangeable core come in, and how do I match the lock?
Four finishes: 606 satin brass, 626 satin chrome, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze and 622 flat black. The core face is the only part you see once installed, so match it to the lever or trim finish on the door. Each combination carries its own PDQ number, for example I52071606 for satin brass and I52071626 for satin chrome.
