PDQ XGT129 Grade 1 Exit / Twin Communicating Cylindrical Lever Lock

Grade 1 Extra Heavy Duty Cylindrical Lock

The PDQ XGT129 is the Exit / Twin Communicating function of the PDQ XGT Series Grade 1 Extra Heavy Duty Cylindrical Lock.

The PDQ XGT Series is an extra heavy duty cylindrical lock certified to ANSI/BHMA A156.2 Grade 1 and cycle tested to over 3 times the BHMA standard. A 2:1 latch bolt throw allows a 41 degree lever rotation with the 2-3/4" backset, which reduces torque and lengthens the life of the lock.

XGT is the step up from the GT Series for doors that face heavy abuse, with 3,000 lbf-in of lever torque resistance and a 13-gauge steel anti-rotation plate. It is assembled in Lancaster, PA.

Key Features

  • Heavy duty diecast chassis with investment cast, cold rolled steel and stainless steel mechanism
  • 13-gauge steel anti-rotation plate for added stability
  • 3,000 lbf-in lever torque resistance, about 4 times the ANSI/BHMA standard
  • Solid diecast Philadelphia, Boston or Miami levers on 3-3/8" wrought brass roses with concealed screws
  • Non-handed; fits doors 1-3/4" to 2-1/4" thick with through-bolted mounting and a standard ANSI A156.115 (161) prep

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the PDQ XGT and GT cylindrical locks?
Both are ANSI/BHMA Grade 1. XGT is rated for 3,000 lbf-in of lever torque resistance, about 4 times the ANSI/BHMA standard, versus 2,200 lbf-in for GT. XGT also uses a 13-gauge steel anti-rotation plate and is cycle tested to over 3 times BHMA standards.

Is the XGT lock fire rated?
Yes. XGT is UL listed for 3-hour fire doors on single doors up to 4'0" x 8'0", meeting UL 10C requirements.

What door thicknesses and backsets fit the XGT lock?
XGT fits doors 1-3/4" to 2-1/4" thick (preset for 1-3/4") with a 2-3/8" or 2-3/4" backset, and it is non-handed, so one unit installs on any door hand.

PDQ XGT129BSN626L – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the Exit / Twin Communicating function on the PDQ XGT129 actually do?
The XGT129 is the exit / twin communicating function of the PDQ XGT Series cylindrical lock, and it is a single cylinder lock. One cylinder controls the opening, and the lever is used for free egress. It is the function you order when you need a keyed outside control on a door that still has to let people out by turning the lever, such as a stairwell or a pair of communicating rooms.
2) Will the PDQ XGT129 fit a 2-inch thick door?
Yes. The XGT lock fits doors 1-3/4 inches to 2-1/4 inches thick and ships preset for 1-3/4 inches, so a 2 inch door is inside range and only needs the lock adjusted. Mounting is through-bolted, and the door prep is the standard ANSI A156.115 (161) cylindrical prep.
3) Do I have to order the XGT129 lever lock handed left or right?
No handing to specify. The XGT129 is non-handed, so one unit installs on a left or right hand door. That makes it easier to stock a single part number across a building rather than carrying both hands.
4) Is the PDQ XGT129 approved for a 3-hour fire rated stairwell door?
Fire rated, yes. The XGT lock is UL 10C listed for 3-hour fire doors on single doors up to 4 feet by 8 feet. It is also certified to ANSI/BHMA A156.2 Grade 1 and complies with ADA and ICC/ANSI 117.1, which covers the lever operation requirement on an egress stair door.
5) Can I key the PDQ XGT129 into my existing Sargent or Yale master key system?
Yes. SCC (Schlage C compatible) is the standard keyway, but the XGT129 can be ordered in Arrow AR1, Corbin 59A1, Corbin 60, Corbin L4, Russwin D1, Schlage E, Schlage C-K, Sargent LA, Sargent RA-RC, Accentra (Yale) E1R, Accentra (Yale) GA, Falcon E-R, Kwikset (5-pin only), or PDQ TA restricted. Keying options include keyed different, keyed alike, master keyed, master keyed to existing bittings, 0-bitted with blank keys, and construction master keyed.
6) Can I use my Best SFIC cores in the PDQ XGT129?
Yes. Keyed XGT functions accept small format interchangeable cores compatible with Best, Falcon and Arrow. You can order the XGT129 as SFIC prep with a 6-pin core, 7-pin core, construction core, plastic construction core, or SFIC prep less core if you are supplying your own. Conventional Schlage C compatible cylinders and Schlage large format IC prep are also offered, though LFIC is available on the Philadelphia lever only.
7) Should I specify the PDQ GT or the XGT series for a high-abuse entry?
Both are ANSI/BHMA Grade 1, so the difference is abuse resistance. XGT carries 3,000 lbf-in of lever torque resistance versus 2,200 lbf-in for GT, adds a 13-gauge steel anti-rotation plate, and is cycle tested to over 3 times BHMA standards. For a school corridor, a vandalism-prone exterior entry or a stairwell, XGT is the step up. For normal commercial traffic, GT already meets Grade 1.
8) Is there a PDQ XGT129 option for a healthcare or x-ray room door?
Yes, two relevant add-ons. A lead-lined rose (LL) is available for x-ray and imaging rooms, and an antimicrobial coating (AM) can be applied to the inside and outside lever and rose, though it is only offered in the 626 satin chrome finish. A dust box for the strike pocket is also available.
9) Can the PDQ XGT129 send a signal to my access control panel when someone exits?
The lock itself is mechanical, not electronic, but a Request to Exit (REX) switch can be ordered on the XGT129, along with an industry standard Molex connector (ISMC) for wiring it in. That gives an access control or alarm panel a dry signal when the inside lever is turned, which is the usual requirement on a monitored stair or perimeter door.
10) Will the PDQ XGT lever work on an exterior door in a Florida hurricane zone?
Yes. The XGT Series is approved for the Florida High Velocity Hurricane Zone under PDQ Product Approval FL 21376, with a design load of plus or minus 70.0 PSF on a single 3 by 7 foot door. A weatherized finish is also available for exterior exposure, in 626 satin chrome only.
11) What do I need to specify to order a PDQ XGT129 correctly?
Each configuration gets its own PDQ part number, for example XGT129PHL605D. You pick lever style (Philadelphia, Boston or Miami), finish, cylinder or core prep, backset (2-3/4 or 2-3/8 inch), strike (ASA, full lip or T-strike), keyway and keying. Optional items are tactile abrasive coating (inside, outside or both sides), split finishes, lead-lined rose, dust box, antimicrobial coating, Request to Exit, Molex connector and weatherized finish. Two keys ship per lock.
12) What finishes and lever styles does the PDQ XGT129 come in?
Seven finishes: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 619 satin nickel, 622 flat black, 625 bright chrome and 626 satin chrome. Lever styles are Philadelphia, Boston and Miami, all solid diecast on 3-3/8 inch wrought brass roses with concealed screws. Split finishes can be ordered when the corridor side and room side need to differ, designating outside trim first.
13) Why does the PDQ XGT lever only rotate 41 degrees, and does that change on double doors?
The 2:1 latchbolt throw on the XGT gives a 41 degree lever rotation with the 2-3/4 inch backset, which cuts the torque on the chassis and extends lock life. On double doors specified with the 2-3/4 inch latch, rotation is 65 degrees instead. Either way it meets ADA and ICC/ANSI 117.1 for lever operation.
