1) Do I need to order anything else with the Pemko SA2 automatic door bottom?
End plates are not included with the SA2, so budget for those separately if your installation calls for them. Fasteners aside, the unit itself is the aluminum housing with the Eco-V insert already in it.
2) I am replacing an old automatic door bottom on a 32 inch door, will the Pemko SA2 drop into the same spot?
The SA2 is a surface applied automatic door bottom, so it mounts to the face of the door bottom rail rather than into a mortised pocket. If what you are pulling off was a mortised unit routed into the door edge, the SA2 is not a straight swap and you would be covering an open mortise. For a surface replacement on a 32 inch door, the 2 inch trim allowance gives you room to match the existing cut length.
3) Automatic door bottom or a surface door sweep, which one should I use?
A sweep drags on the floor the whole time the door swings. An automatic door bottom like the Pemko SA2 lifts clear as the door opens and drops 1/2 inch onto the threshold when it closes, so it seals against air and smoke without scraping carpet or a finished floor. Pick the automatic bottom where you have flooring you do not want scuffed, or where the opening has to hold a UL1784 smoke seal. Pick a sweep where the gap is bigger than 1/2 inch or the budget is tight.
4) Is the Pemko SA2 the right automatic door bottom for apartment entry doors across a building?
It is specified for residential use, which is where multi-family unit entries fall, and 32 inch and 36 inch doors are the usual sizes in that stock.
