1) Will the EPL-101 fit a 2 inch thick patio door?
No. The range stops at 1-3/4 inches. On a thicker panel the bolt geometry will not line up with the fixed rail, so you need a different style of slider security, typically a surface-mounted foot bolt or a track-mounted device rather than a top-rail lock.
2) How does a top-mounted patio door lock secure a slider better than a bar in the track?
A track bar only stops the panel from sliding. The EPL-101 mounts at the top of the panel and drops a steel bolt through the fixed-panel rail, so it blocks sliding and lifting the panel out of the track, which is the usual way a slider gets defeated.
