You get two plates per set, one for the inside face of the door and one for the outside. Each measures 5 by 14 inches. They are cut for Schlage CO Series mortise hardware, so the plate reveals the door prep holes that hardware needs while covering the door face around them.
2) Will these flat plates cover old holes from the lock I am taking off the door?
That is what they are for. In a retrofit the plates hide preexisting holes in the door that the new hardware does not use, while leaving the holes needed for Schlage CO Series mortise hardware exposed. With a 5 by 14 inch face per plate, they cover a fair amount of damage around the old prep. If your old holes fall outside that footprint, they will still show.
3) Will these Pro-Lok plates work with a Schlage CO cylindrical lock instead of a mortise?
No. These are cut for Schlage CO Series mortise hardware specifically. A cylindrical CO lock uses a different door prep, so the openings in these plates will not line up. Match the plate to the lock body type you are actually installing.
4) Can I use these plates on a metal door, or are they wood door only?
Both. The Pro-Lok flat plates are stated for wood or metal doors, and for residential, commercial or industrial use. That makes them usable across a mixed building where some openings are hollow metal and others are wood.
5) Do these plates reinforce a door that has been damaged or kicked in?
They repair, reinforce and protect the door face around the lock prep. A 5 by 14 inch plate on each side sandwiches the area where a mortise pocket and trim holes have weakened the stile, which is the usual reason a property manager reaches for them rather than replacing the whole door leaf.
