1) What does the Pro-Lok wrap plate for Simplex and Kaba mortise locks actually do?
It's a specialty wrap plate that wraps the edge of a door around a Simplex or Kaba mortise lock prep. Two jobs: repairing a door edge that's already been damaged or pried, and reinforcing an intact one against forced entry. Works on wood or metal doors, and it's used in residential, commercial and industrial openings.
2) Will this Pro-Lok wrap plate fit a 1-3/8 inch door?
No. The wrap plate is cut for 1-3/4 inch thick doors only. Since it wraps the door edge, the thickness has to match exactly, so a 1-3/8 inch door (common on older interior openings) will not seat correctly. 1-3/4 inch is the standard commercial door thickness, so most Simplex and Kaba mortise installs will match.
3) Does the Pro-Lok wrap plate work with a cylindrical Simplex lock, or only mortise?
Mortise only. This one is cut for the Simplex and Kaba mortise lock prep. A cylindrical or tubular Simplex uses a different door prep entirely, so the cutouts won't line up.
4) Can I use this wrap plate on a metal door, or is it for wood only?
Both. Pro-Lok lists this wrap plate for wood or metal doors, as long as the door is 1-3/4 inches thick and prepped for a Simplex or Kaba mortise lock.
5) I manage a building with Simplex mortise locks on several doors that have been kicked. Is one plate enough per door?
One plate covers one door edge at the lock. If several openings were hit, you'll need one per door, and you can standardize the look by ordering all of them in the same finish, either Duronodic or Stainless Steel. The plate repairs the damaged edge and stiffens it against a repeat attempt without replacing the door.
6) What finishes does the Pro-Lok Simplex and Kaba wrap plate come in?
Two: Duronodic (a dark bronze tone) and Stainless Steel. Pick Duronodic to blend with dark bronze anodized aluminum storefront and Stainless to match brushed lever trim and push plates already on the opening.
