1) Will the Pro-Lok wrap plate for Simplex and Kaba knob locks fit a 1-3/8 inch door?
No. The Pro-Lok Specialty Wrap Plate for Simplex and Kaba knob locks is made for 1-3/4 inch thick doors only. A wrap plate has to fold over the door edge and land flat on both faces, so a 1-3/8 inch door leaves the wrap standing proud and the fasteners pulling at an angle. On older interior doors at 1-3/8 inches you need a wrap sized for that thickness instead.
2) What size is the Pro-Lok Simplex/Kaba wrap plate, and will it cover the damage around my knob lock?
It measures 5 x 9 inches, which gives you coverage above and below the knob bore across the lock area of the door face. It is prepped for Simplex and Kaba knob-style pushbutton locks, so the cutouts line up with that lock's footprint rather than a generic knob prep.
3) My Simplex door was kicked in at the latch. Is a wrap plate the right repair, or do I need a new door?
If the damage is crushing or splitting around the lock bore and the edge, a wrap plate is the standard repair. This Pro-Lok plate covers 5 x 9 inches of the face and folds over the edge, pulling the split material back together and putting a hard skin over the strike side of the lock. If the door is broken through the core or the stile is separated top to bottom, replace the door instead. Also check the frame and strike side, a wrap plate does nothing for a blown-out jamb.
4) Will this Pro-Lok wrap plate work with a standard knob or lever lockset instead of a Simplex?
No, this one is cut for Simplex and Kaba knob-style pushbutton locks specifically. Their trim footprint and spindle arrangement differ from a cylindrical knobset, so the holes will not line up. For a conventional knob or lever you want a wrap plate prepped for standard cylindrical bore.
5) Can I use this wrap plate on a hollow metal door, or is it wood only?
Both. The Pro-Lok Specialty Wrap Plate is intended to repair and reinforce wood or metal doors against forced entry, and it is rated for residential, commercial and industrial openings.
6) Do I have to remove the Simplex lock to install this wrap plate?
Yes. The plate wraps the door edge and sits under the lock on the face, so the Simplex or Kaba knob unit comes off, the wrap goes on over the bore and edge prep, and the lock reinstalls through it. Plan the job so the opening is out of service for the swap.
