1) Will the RAB WFRETRO wafer downlight fit my existing 6 inch recessed cans?
The RAB WFRETRO retrofit wafer is built to drop into existing 4 inch to 6 inch recessed housings, and the two orderable versions, WFRETRO6 smooth trim and WFRETRO6B baffle trim, are the 6 inch size. It is a retrofit unit, so the old can stays in the ceiling and the wafer replaces the lamp and trim.
2) Can I set the color temperature on the RAB WFRETRO downlight in the field, or do I order it by CCT?
Color temperature is selectable on the fixture, five CCT choices, so you order one part number and set it at install. That is the practical reason to spec it on a multi-building or phased job: one SKU on the truck covers warm residential-feel spaces and cooler commercial areas, and you can match the wafer to whatever is already lit in the adjacent rooms instead of guessing at the order stage. Wattage is selectable the same way, 15W, 13W, or 11W.
3) Is the RAB WFRETRO wafer downlight dimmable, and what kind of dimmer does it need?
It is Triac dimmable, meaning it runs on a standard forward-phase incandescent-style wall dimmer, not a 0-10V control. If you are retrofitting cans that already have a Triac or leading-edge dimmer on the wall, the existing control stays. If the space is on 0-10V or DALI controls, this is the wrong fixture for that circuit.
4) What is the difference between the smooth trim and baffle trim on the RAB wafer downlight?
Both are white, and the difference is glare control versus a flush look. The baffle version, WFRETRO6B, has ridged rings inside the aperture that absorb stray light, which is what you want in offices, healthcare corridors, and anywhere occupants look up at the ceiling. The smooth version, WFRETRO6, gives a clean uninterrupted aperture and reads better in retail and hospitality ceilings. Light output and wattage are identical between the two.
5) How many RAB WFRETRO wafer downlights can I put on a single 120V circuit?
Each fixture draws 0.15A at 120V at the top 15W setting. On a 20A branch circuit loaded to the 16A continuous limit, that is a large count of wafers electrically, so in practice your limit is the dimmer's rated LED load and any local code requirement, not the wire. Drop the fixtures to 11W and the per-unit draw falls with the wattage. The driver is constant current, Class 2.
6) Is CRI 90 worth paying for on a retrofit downlight, or is 80 CRI fine?
CRI 90 matters where people judge color under the light: retail merchandise, healthcare exam and patient areas, hospitality guest rooms, and any tenant space where finishes and skin tones need to read true.
