1) Which die set do I need to crimp RG6 coax for CATV drops?
For RG6 you have a few choices on the VDV200-010 frame: VDV212-034 covers CATV F-connectors on RG59/6, VDV211-037 covers RG6/58/59/62, and VDV211-041 covers RG58/59/62/6. If the job is F-connectors on a cable TV or satellite drop, the VDV212-034 is the one built for that.
2) Is the Klein VDV200-010 crimper insulated for live electrical work?
No. The VDV200-010 is NOT insulated and will not protect against electrical shock. Klein's own warning is to never use it on or near live circuits. De-energize first, and wear approved eye protection when crimping.
3) Will the ratchet let go before the connector is fully crimped?
No. The ratchet mechanism on this Klein crimper frame is built to hold the jaws closed until full compression is reached, which is what keeps a partial crimp from passing as a good one. There's also a safety crimp release for backing out of a termination where the connector sat in the die wrong, instead of scrapping it.
4) I stripped the thumb-screws on my Klein ratcheting crimper frame. Can I just replace those?
Yes. Klein sells a replacement thumb and Phillips screw set, VDV999-033, for the VDV200-010 frame, so a stripped screw doesn't mean a new tool. Going forward, hand-tighten the thumb-screws only; over-tightening is what damages the threads and can harm the die set.
5) Can I crimp fiber optic connectors with this Klein frame?
Yes, with the right die. VDV201-040 covers RG58/59/62/174 plus fiber optic, and VDV201-042 covers RG174/179/Belden 8218 and fiber optic. Both mount to the VDV200-010 frame.
6) How big and heavy is the VDV200-010 crimper for a tool pouch?
