1) Will the RCI 411 electric strike work with my cylindrical lever lock, or is it only for mortise locks?
Both. The 411 has an enlarged latch cavity that takes cylindrical locks, narrowline aluminum locks, and centerline mortise locks including 3-piece anti-friction types, plus mortise exit devices. The one thing to confirm on your lock is latch projection: this strike is built for a 3/4 inch projection latch.
2) What door thickness range does the RCI 411 electric strike cover?
1-3/8 inch through 2-3/8 inch, so it covers standard 1-3/4 inch commercial doors, older 1-3/8 inch interior doors, and thicker leaves up to 2-3/8 inches without a different model.
3) Is fail-secure the right choice for this strike on an office entry, and what happens in a power failure?
The 411 is a fail-secure strike: it stays locked when power is lost and releases only when energized. That is the normal choice for an exterior or office entry, because the mechanical lever or exit device on the inside still gives free egress. If your opening needs the strike to unlock on power loss (some stair doors and egress paths), fail-secure is the wrong function and you need a fail-safe strike instead.
4) What faceplate does the RCI 411 use and will it fit an existing ANSI strike prep?
It comes with a 4-7/8 inch square corner faceplate, which is the common commercial strike plate size. Cut-out depth needed in the frame is 1-1/2 inches, which suits most aluminum and wood frame profiles. If your frame is prepped for a radius (round) corner plate, the square corner plate will not drop in without filing the corners.
5) Which voltage of the RCI 411 strike should I order for my access control panel?
Three voltages are offered: 11-16 VAC, 12 VAC/DC, and 24 VAC/DC. Match it to the power supply feeding the door. The coil is not polarity conscious, and AC or DC input is acceptable on fail-locked models, so on the 12 and 24 VAC/DC versions you do not have to worry about which lead is positive.
6) Can the RCI 411 electric strike be used on a fire rated door?
No. The 411 is not fire rated. On a labeled opening you need a fire rated (fail-secure, continuous duty) electric strike listed for that use. Use the 411 on non-labeled commercial openings.
7) Does the RCI 411 strike meet Grade 1 for a spec that calls out ANSI/BHMA and UL?
