1) Will the RCI 4307 electric strike work with my mortise lock, or is it only for cylindrical latches?
Both. The 4307 has an enlarged latch cavity width that takes cylindrical locks, narrowline aluminum locks, centerline mortise locks (including the 3-piece anti-friction type) and mortise exit devices. The one thing it must match is latch projection: the 4307 is built for a 3/4 inch projection latch. If your lock throws a different projection, you need a different model in the 4 Series.
2) What happens to the door if power is lost on the RCI 4307?
It unlocks. The 4307 is a fail-safe strike, so the keeper releases when power drops and the door can be pushed open from the outside. That is what you want on an egress or stairwell application tied to a fire alarm release, and what you do NOT want on an exterior perimeter door you need to stay secure in an outage. For a door that must stay locked without power, order a fail-secure strike instead.
3) Will this RCI strike fit an aluminum storefront frame?
The 4307 needs a 1-1/2 inch cut-out depth in the frame, which suits most aluminum and wood frame profiles. The faceplate is 6-7/8 inches with round corners, so it drops into a standard round-corner ANSI-style prep of that length. Measure the available depth behind the frame face before cutting; shallow storefront tubes are the usual failure point.
4) Is the RCI 4307 rated for a fire door?
No. The 4307 carries no fire rating, and being a fail-safe unit it releases on power loss, which is not what a fire-rated opening requires. For a labeled fire door you need a fail-secure, fire-rated strike. Where the 4307 does hold approvals is security and access control: UL 294 Listed, UL 1034 Burglary-Resistant Listed, and certified to ANSI/BHMA A156.31 Grade 1.
