1) Will the RCI 4308 electric strike work with a 3/4 inch latch projection on a mortise lock?
That is exactly what the 4308 is built for. The latch cavity is sized for 3/4 inch projection latches and the cavity width is enlarged so it accepts cylindrical locks, narrowline aluminum locks, centerline mortise locks including the 3-piece anti-friction type, and mortise exit devices. If your latch projects less or more than 3/4 inch, you want a different cavity in the 4 Series.
2) What frame cut-out depth does the 4308 electric strike need?
Plan for a 1-1/2 inch cut-out depth, which clears most aluminum and wood frame profiles. The faceplate is 7-15/16 inches with round corners, so if the existing frame prep is square-cut you will need to dress the corners or use a round-corner prep. Door thickness range covered is 1-3/8 to 2-3/8 inches.
3) Is the RCI 4308 fail-safe or fail-secure, and what happens in a power outage?
The 4308 is configured fail-safe, meaning the strike releases and the door can be pushed open when power drops. That suits egress-driven openings but it is the wrong choice where you need the door to stay secure without power, for example an exterior perimeter door on a building with no backup power. For that, specify a fail-locked (fail-secure) model instead.
4) Can I install this RCI strike on a fire-rated door opening?
No. The 4308 carries no fire rating, and a fail-safe strike releases the latch on power loss, which is incompatible with a fire door assembly that must stay positively latched. For a labeled opening you need a fire-rated, fail-secure electric strike.
