1) Will the RCI 4 Series electric strike work on a fire rated door opening?
Yes. The RCI 4 Series strike with the 4-7/8 inch square corner faceplate carries a 3 Hour Fire Rating and is UL 1034 Burglary-Resistant Listed, along with UL 294 listing and certification to ANSI/BHMA A156.31 Grade 1. Note that it is fail-secure only, which is what a fire rated opening requires, since the latch must stay held on loss of power.
2) What happens to the door if power is lost to this RCI electric strike?
It stays locked. This is a fail-secure strike, so the keeper remains held when power drops and the door can only be opened from the secure side by mechanical key or by the lever on the egress side of the lock. If your application requires the door to release on power failure, this is the wrong unit and you need a fail-safe strike instead.
3) What lock types does the RCI 4 Series strike accept?
It takes cylindrical locks, narrowline aluminum locks, centerline mortise locks (including 3-piece anti-friction latch types) and mortise exit devices. The enlarged latch cavity is what makes that range possible, and it accommodates a 3/4 inch latch projection. It will not work with a deadbolt or with a surface or concealed vertical rod exit device.
4) What door thickness range does this RCI strike cover?
1-3/8 inch through 2-3/8 inch, so it covers standard 1-3/4 inch commercial doors, older 1-3/8 inch interior doors, and thicker aluminum storefront and specialty leaves at the top of the range.
5) How deep does the frame cut-out need to be for the RCI 4 Series strike?
1-1/2 inches of depth behind the faceplate, which clears most aluminum and hollow metal frame profiles as well as wood frames. The faceplate itself is 4-7/8 inches with square corners, so on a frame already prepped for a square corner ANSI strike the prep usually lines up; measure the available depth in the jamb before you commit, because a shallow storefront jamb is the usual failure point.
6) Do I order the 12V or the 24V version of this RCI electric strike?
Both are offered, 12 VAC/DC and 24 VAC/DC, and you pick to match the access control power supply feeding the door. A projecting deadbolt has to throw into a separate deadbolt strike or a lock body prep in the frame; the electric strike will not release it.
