1) Will the RCI 7114 electric strike work with my cylindrical lockset, or is it mortise only?
Both. The 7114 accepts cylindrical locks as well as mortise exit and latch locks, provided the latch projection is 5/8 inch. It is a centerline strike, so the latch has to sit on centerline in the frame. If your lock throws a deadbolt as well as a latch, that is a different strike prep entirely.
2) What size frame cutout does the RCI 7114 need?
The faceplate is 4-7/8 inches with square corners, and the strike needs 1-1/2 inches of cutout depth behind it in the frame. A trim plate ships with the unit to cover up an irregular or oversized existing cutout, which is what makes it workable on a retrofit where the old strike pocket is ragged. There is also 1/8 inch of horizontal adjustment for dialing in alignment with the latch.
3) Does the RCI 7114 strike stay locked or unlock when power fails?
Fail-secure. Lose power and the 7114 stays locked from the outside; the inside lever always retracts the latch mechanically for free egress. If your opening needs to release on power loss, such as a stairwell or an opening tied to a fire alarm release, order the fail-safe version of the 7 Series instead. The 7 Series is built in both.
4) What voltage options does the RCI 7114 come in, and what current does it draw?
Four voltage choices: 11-16 VAC, 12 VDC, 24 VAC and 24 VDC. Draw is 280mA at 12VDC, so size your access control power supply and the run of wire against that figure before you pull cable.
5) Can I use the RCI 7114 on a fire-rated door opening?
No. The 7114 is not fire rated, so keep it off labeled fire door assemblies. For a rated opening you need a fire-rated electric strike, which in practice means a fail-secure unit with a UL label for fire doors and no keeper movement under load.
