1) Will the RCI 7108 electric strike work with my cylindrical lockset, or do I need a mortise version?
One strike covers both. The RCI 7108 is built for cylindrical locks as well as mortise exit and latch locks, and it also works with exit devices. What actually decides fit is the latch projection: it accommodates a 5/8 inch (16mm) projection. Measure the latch on your existing lock before ordering.
2) What door thickness does the RCI 7 Series electric strike cover?
It handles doors from 1-3/8 to 2-3/8 inches (35mm to 60mm), so standard 1-3/4 inch commercial doors and older 1-3/8 inch interior doors both fall inside the range, as do thicker doors up to 2-3/8 inches.
3) Does the RCI 7108 stay locked or unlocked when the power drops?
Fail-secure. Cut the power and the strike stays locked, so the opening remains secure during an outage and free egress still comes from turning the inside lever or pushing the exit device. If your life-safety plan calls for the door to release on power loss, you need a fail-safe unit instead; the 7 Series is offered in both configurations.

5) How deep does the frame cutout need to be for the RCI 7108?
Plan on a 1-1/2 inch (38mm) cut-out depth behind the faceplate, with the faceplate itself measuring 7-15/16 inches with round corners. There is 1/8 inch (3.2mm) of horizontal adjustment built in to line the keeper up with the latch after the frame is prepped.
6) I'm replacing an older strike and the frame cutout is chewed up. Will this cover it?
A trim plate ships with the strike specifically to cover an irregular frame cutout, which is the usual retrofit problem. Mounting tabs and fasteners are included too, so the only thing you supply is the wiring and power.
7) Is the RCI 7108 electric strike rated for a fire door?
