1) How do you mount an electromagnetic lock on a frameless glass or herculite door?
With a glass door bracket. The RCI Glass Door Bracket is a U-shaped channel that slips over the edge of the glass panel and clamps down with setscrews, so nothing has to be drilled through the glass. The armature plate then bolts to threaded holes in the bracket face, giving the magnet a flat steel surface to pull against on a door that has no top rail or frame to mount into.
2) Do I need to drill the glass to install a maglock on a herculite door?
No drilling into the glass. The RCI glass door bracket clamps over the panel edge and tightens with setscrews, which is why it is used on glass and herculite doors that have no frame to fasten into. That matters on tempered glass, where field drilling is not an option at all.
3) Does the RCI glass door bracket come with the magnet or the armature plate?
Neither. The GB bracket is the mounting hardware only, an accessory to the maglock. You order the 8310, 8320, 8371, 8372 or 8375 electromagnetic lock separately, and the armature plate that ships with that lock fastens to the bracket's threaded holes. Budget the job for the lock, the bracket, and the power supply and release device the opening needs.
4) How thick is the RCI glass door bracket material, and will it clear my door frame or header?
The bracket is formed from 1/16 inch thick material, so the wall of the U adds only about that much to each face of the glass. On a frameless glass door where the maglock body sits on the header and the armature rides on the bracket, that thin section is what keeps the armature close enough to the magnet face without shimming. Check your top clearance between glass and header before finalizing the layout.
5) Is a glass door bracket the right approach, or should I use a top jamb bracket kit?
It depends on what the door is made of. A glass door bracket is for a frameless glass or herculite leaf, where there is no stile or rail to fasten the armature into and the bracket has to clamp the panel itself. If the glass door has an aluminum top rail, or you are working an inswinging door where the magnet body needs to drop below the header, that is a Z bracket or L bracket job, not a glass door bracket. The GB series solves one problem: armature mounting on bare glass.
6) Are RCI glass door brackets rated for commercial access control use?
