1) What is the RCI TJ Series Z bracket actually for on a mag lock install?
It's the mounting bracket, not the lock. The TJ Series Z bracket carries the armature plate on the pull side of the door so the electromagnet mounted at the top jamb has something to pull against. It includes horizontal adjustment so you can shift the armature into proper alignment with the magnet face, which is what holding force depends on. If you're buying the mag lock itself, this is an accessory you order alongside it.
2) Which RCI mag lock does the TJ Z bracket kit fit?
Order the bracket kit that matches your lock. RCI offers the Z bracket kit for the 8310, 8320, 8371, 8372, 8375 and 8380, plus a DE8310 bracket kit for the delayed egress 8310. The bracket is model-specific, so the kit is selected by lock model rather than being one universal part.
3) Do I need a Z bracket, or can I mount the armature straight to the door?
Depends which way the door swings. A magnet mounted at the top jamb on an outswing (pull side) opening has no flat surface in line with the armature, so the Z bracket brings the armature plate out to meet the magnet face. On an inswing door where the magnet sits on the frame soffit above the door, the armature usually mounts flat to the door face and no Z bracket is needed. The TJ Series is the pull-side case.
4) I have an RCI delayed egress mag lock. Is the bracket the same one?
No. Delayed egress takes its own part. The DE8310 bracket kit is listed separately from the standard 8310 Z bracket kit, so if you're mounting a delayed egress 8310 you need the DE version, in 628 anodized aluminum or 695 dark bronze. Ordering the plain 8310 kit for a DE lock gets you the wrong bracket.
5) What finishes does the RCI TJ Z bracket come in, and will it match my storefront hardware?
Two finishes: 628 anodized aluminum and 695 dark bronze. Both are offered across every bracket kit model, so you can match either a clear-anodized aluminum storefront or a dark bronze one without changing which lock you're using. 628 and 695 are the two standard architectural finishes on aluminum entrances, so in most cases one of them is already on the frame.
6) Does the RCI Z bracket kit work on a pair of doors?
It's a single-door part. Each TJ Series Z bracket kit is configured for one door leaf, so a pair of doors with two mag locks needs two kits, one per leaf, matched to each lock model. Order the same finish for both so the entrance reads consistently.
7) My mag lock isn't holding full force. Can the bracket correct the alignment?
Yes, within its horizontal travel. The TJ Z bracket is built with horizontal adjustment specifically so the armature plate can be shifted into square contact with the magnet face. Full contact across the magnet is what produces rated holding force, so a small lateral misalignment is exactly what this adjustment is there to take out. If the gap is vertical or the door is dropping, that's a hinge or closer problem, not something the bracket fixes.
8) Is the TJ Z bracket rated for a commercial opening or is it light duty?
