Securitron TJ Top Jamb Inswing Mounting Kit

Securitron’s TJ-38 & 68 Top Jam Kits are bracket accessory kits that provide the necessary hardware required for the inswinging door mount configuration for the Model M38 or M68 Magnalocks.

Each kit is used to mount either an M38 or M68 on the secure side of a door that swings into a secured area.

The kit includes a TJ-Bracket to mount the lock at or above the door frame (header), a Z-Bracket for mounting the strike to the door, and a Dress Cover to conceal the assembly and provide an attractive finished appearance.

1) When do I need a Securitron TJ top jamb kit for a Magnalock?
The TJ kit is for doors that swing INTO the secured area. On an inswing opening you cannot mount the magnet directly to the underside of the header on the secure side, so the TJ bracket carries the lock at or above the door frame and a Z-bracket carries the armature strike on the door face. If your door swings out of the secured area, the lock mounts directly to the header and you do not need this kit.
2) Which Securitron TJ kit do I order, TJ-38 or TJ-68?
Pick the one that matches your magnet. The TJ-38 is the kit for the Model M38 Magnalock and the TJ-68 is for the M68. Those are the two choices, and the brackets are sized to the lock body, so they are not interchangeable between the two locks.
3) Does the Securitron TJ mounting kit include the maglock itself?
No. The TJ kit is bracket hardware only: the TJ bracket that mounts the lock at the header, a Z-bracket that mounts the armature strike to the door, and a dress cover to conceal the assembly. The M38 or M68 Magnalock is a separate order.
4) Is the Securitron TJ bracket kit fire rated for use on a labeled door?
No. The TJ top jamb kit carries no fire rating, so do not specify it for a labeled fire door assembly without approval from the authority having jurisdiction.
5) Where does the armature plate go when using a TJ top jamb kit on an inswing door?
On the door face, not the top edge. The Z-bracket in the kit holds the armature strike out from the door so it meets the magnet mounted on the TJ bracket at the header. That is the whole reason the Z shape exists, and it is what makes an inswing installation possible without cutting the door.
6) What is the Securitron TJ bracket made of, and will it look finished on an office door?
Aluminum. The kit also comes with a dress cover that hides the bracket work and the wiring path across the header, which is why it is commonly used on interior office and lobby openings where the assembly is in plain view.
