RCI RCI-LEKL601 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the RCI LEKL601 lip extension used for?
The LEKL601 is a 1 inch lip extension for RCI L6 Series low profile electric strikes. It adds exactly 1 inch of lip projection so the latch bolt still lands on the strike lip when the frame sits back from the door edge. It is a strike accessory, not a strike, so you install it on an L6 Series strike you already have or are ordering.
2) Will the LEKL601 lip extension fit an RCI electric strike other than the L6 Series?
No. The 1 inch lip extension is made specifically for RCI L6 Series low profile electric strikes and its fit is only stated for that series. If your strike is a different RCI family or another brand, get the lip extension built for that strike body rather than adapting this one.
3) My latch is barely catching the electric strike because the frame is recessed. Does a lip extension fix that?
That is the exact condition this part addresses. Where frame conditions leave the strike lip short of the door edge, the 1 inch extension pushes the lip out so the latch bolt gets full capture instead of skimming the edge. Measure the gap between your existing lip edge and where the latch actually lands; if you need about an inch more reach on an L6 Series strike, this is the part.
4) Do I need any wiring or power for the lip extension?
No wiring is involved. The lip extension is mechanical sheet hardware that mounts to the L6 Series strike; all the electrical work stays with the strike itself. Follow the L6 strike's own installation instructions for integrating the extension.
5) Does ordering the LEKL601 get me an electric strike as well?
No, only the 1 inch lip extension. The L6 Series low profile electric strike is a separate order, and you also supply your own frame prep and mounting to the strike. Order the extension alongside the strike, or on its own if you are retrofitting a strike already in the frame.
6) How much projection does the RCI lip extension add, and is there a shorter option?
The LEKL601 adds exactly 1 inch. That is a fixed dimension, not adjustable, so if your opening needs a different amount of reach you want a different lip length in the RCI L6 accessory range rather than trimming this one.
7) Is the RCI 1 inch lip extension rated for commercial door traffic?
It is classified as a commercial component, built for electronic access control openings such as office buildings, schools, healthcare entries, retail and multi-tenant doors. It is not a residential-duty accessory.
