RCI RCI-LEKL603 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the RCI LEKL603 and what does it actually do on a door?
The LEKL603 is a 3-inch lip extension for RCI L6 Series low profile electric strikes. It replaces or extends the strike's lip so the lip reaches further off the frame, which is what you need when the frame face sits back from the door face and the latch is not making clean contact with the strike keeper. It is an accessory only, not a strike, so you need the L6 Series strike itself as well.
2) Will this lip extension fit any electric strike, or only RCI L6?
Only RCI L6 Series low profile electric strikes. It is engineered specifically for that family, so it is not a universal lip and should not be fitted to other RCI series or another brand's strike. If your strike is not an L6, this is the wrong part.
3) My latch is not catching the strike because the frame is recessed. Is a longer lip the fix?
That is exactly the condition this part addresses. Extending the lip reach brings the strike lip out toward the latch so the latchbolt engages properly instead of dragging or missing. The LEKL603 gives a 3-inch lip. Measure the gap between your frame face and the latch face first, so you know 3 inches is the reach you need rather than a shorter or longer lip.
4) Does the LEKL603 change anything about how the electric strike is wired or powered?
No. The lip extension is a mechanical part of the strike faceplate assembly, so voltage, fail-safe or fail-secure mode, and wiring all stay as specified on the L6 strike you are pairing it with. Nothing about the electrical side of the opening changes by fitting it.
5) I am ordering a batch of L6 strikes for a building retrofit. How many lip extensions do I need?
One per strike that needs the extended reach, and only for the openings where the frame setback actually calls for it. Openings where the latch already engages cleanly take the standard L6 lip. On a mixed retrofit it is normal to order LEKL603 for a subset of doors rather than the whole count, so survey the frames before you set quantities.
6) Is the RCI 3-inch lip extension a commercial-duty part?
It is classed as commercial, built to commercial standards for access control openings, and RCI applies it in offices, schools, healthcare, retail, industrial and multi-tenant buildings. It is not positioned as a residential accessory.
7) Do I get installation instructions with the lip extension itself?
Installation follows the parent L6 electric strike's instructions rather than a separate procedure for the lip. RCI directs installers to the strike documentation and to confirm the lip suits the existing hardware before fitting. Full RCI product catalog details are published by the manufacturer for the L6 Series.
