RCI RCI-LEK02 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the RCI LEK02 lip extension actually do on an electric strike?
The LEK02 is a 2-inch lip extension that adds reach to the strike lip so the latch can engage properly where the standard lip is too short for the door and frame alignment. It is an accessory part, not a strike itself, so you still need the electric strike body it mounts to.
2) My frame sits back from the door face and the latch is barely catching the strike. Will a lip extension fix that?
That is exactly the case the LEK02 is for. The 2-inch extended lip reaches out toward the latch so the bolt engages the strike properly when the standard lip does not reach far enough. It only solves reach across the face of the frame, though. If the problem is strike height or a vertical misalignment, an extended lip will not correct it.
3) Can I add the LEK02 to an electric strike that is already installed in the frame?
Yes, it is intended for retrofit as well as new installs. Because it is a lip component for the 4 and 7 Series strike, you follow the installation instructions for the strike itself when fitting it. Confirm your existing unit is a 4 or 7 Series before you order.
4) Does the LEK02 come with the electric strike, or do I order the strike separately?
Separately. The LEK02 is only the 2-inch lip extension kit. The electric strike body, the power supply and the frame prep are all separate line items on your order.
5) Is the RCI LEK02 rated for commercial door use?
Yes, it is a commercial-grade door hardware accessory, used in access control openings in schools, healthcare, retail, government and multi-tenant residential buildings.
6) What options do I need to specify when ordering the RCI LEK02?
There is one configuration, model LEK02, at the 2-inch length. Nothing else to pick, so the only decision is whether 2 inches is the reach your opening needs and that your strike is a 4 or 7 Series.
