RCI RCI-LEK03 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the RCI LEK03 lip extension used for on an electric strike?
The LEK03 is a 3-inch lip extension accessory for RCI 4 and 7 Series electric strikes. It lengthens the strike lip by 3 inches so the latch is guided and engaged properly where the frame sits back from the door face, which is a common issue on frames with a deep reveal or added trim. It is a part for the strike, not a strike itself, so you order it alongside or in addition to the 4 or 7 Series strike body.
2) Will the RCI LEK03 fit any electric strike, or only certain RCI models?
Only RCI 4 Series and 7 Series electric strikes. The LEK03 is built specifically for those two families, so it will not be a stated fit on a HES, Von Duprin, Adams Rite or other RCI series body. If the strike already in your frame is not a 4 or 7 Series, check the model stamped on the strike faceplate before ordering.
3) My latch is catching on the edge of the strike instead of sliding in. Will a lip extension fix that?
That is the exact problem a 3-inch lip extension is meant for. When the frame is set back from the door face, or trim and gasketing push the door out, the latch hits the lip edge rather than riding across it. The LEK03 carries the lip 3 inches further out on RCI 4 and 7 Series strikes so the latch is guided into the keeper. If the misalignment is vertical rather than a reveal problem, the lip will not correct it and the strike prep needs adjusting.
4) Does adding the LEK03 lip extension change how the electric strike is wired or powered?
No. The lip is a mechanical part. Voltage, current draw and the fail-safe or fail-secure mode all stay with the 4 or 7 Series strike body you already have; the extension only changes the physical lip length by 3 inches. That means you can add it to a working opening without revisiting the power supply or the access control panel.
5) How many versions of the RCI lip extension are there, and which do I order?
There is one model, LEK03, and it is the 3-inch length for 4 and 7 Series strikes. There is no handing or finish choice to make on it, so the only thing to confirm is that the strike in the frame is an RCI 4 or 7 Series.
6) Is the RCI LEK03 lip extension rated for commercial use?
Yes, it's catalogued as a commercial-duty part, and it is the kind of accessory that turns up on office, healthcare, education and government access control openings where the strike is cycled all day. It is an accessory to the electric strike, so the electrical behavior (fail-safe or fail-secure) is determined by the 4 or 7 Series strike itself, not by the lip.
7) Is there installation documentation for the RCI LEK03 lip extension?
Yes. RCI publishes installation instructions for the part, and the full RCI product catalog covers the 4 and 7 Series strikes it mounts to. Because the lip works with the parent strike, the strike's own installation sheet governs the frame prep and keeper position; the lip extension instructions cover only the lip itself.
