1) What does the RCI LEK01 lip extension kit actually do on an electric strike?
The LEK01 adds 1 inch of lip projection to an RCI 4 or 7 Series electric strike. It is the fix for an opening where the frame sits back from the door face and the standard strike lip does not reach far enough to guide and catch the latch cleanly. It is an accessory only, not a strike, so you need the strike itself as well.

No. The extension is a mechanical lip component. It bolts on to the strike assembly and the electronic release, voltage, and fail safe or fail secure behavior of the 4 or 7 Series unit stay exactly as they were.
