Thomas & Betts CITA-1/2 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Thomas & Betts CITA-1/2 come with a cover and gasket?
The CITA-1/2 is the conduit body itself, catalogued with the 1/2 inch hubs and cast aluminum construction. Covers and gaskets for conduit bodies are ordered separately by size and series, so plan on adding a matching 1/2 inch cover and, for damp or wet locations, a gasket to complete the installation.
2) What is a Type T conduit body used for, and when should I use an LB or LL instead?
A Type T body like the CITA-1/2 gives you three 1/2 inch openings on one fitting, so it is what you use where a rigid conduit run needs to branch or where you want a pull point with a tee takeoff. If you only need to turn a corner or come out of a wall, an LB, LL or LR body is the right choice instead; those are single-direction elbow bodies and are smaller to mount in tight spaces.
3) Is the CITA-1/2 conduit body metal or plastic, and will it hold up outdoors?
Cast aluminum. That makes the CITA-1/2 suitable for exposed and damp exterior rigid conduit runs where a non-ferrous body is wanted to avoid rust streaking. Keep in mind aluminum and galvanized steel conduit in wet locations is a dissimilar metal contact, so many specs call for anti-seize on the threads.
4) Is the CITA-1/2 conduit body approved for Canadian jobs?
It carries CSA, so the CITA-1/2 is acceptable where Canadian certification is required on the fitting.
5) Will the CITA-1/2 thread onto EMT?
No. The CITA-1/2 is a threaded body for rigid conduit, so it mates with threaded rigid or IMC. EMT is unthreaded; to tie EMT into this body you need an EMT-to-threaded male adapter at the hub.
