1) What does the Rockwood 2601C mounting bracket actually do on a door coordinator installation?
The 2601C is a mounting bracket used when hardware is applied to the soffit or stop of the frame, above a coordinator. Without it, the fasteners for that stop applied hardware pass straight through the coordinator housing and jam the mechanism, so the coordinator stops sequencing the doors. The bracket carries those fasteners instead and keeps the coordinator working. It is a bracket only, not the coordinator itself.
2) Do the Rockwood 2601C brackets come with screws, or do I need to order fasteners separately?
Fasteners are included. Each bracket ships with four 1/4-20 x 1/2 inch flat head machine screws and four #12-24 x 2 inch flat head machine screws. The short 1/4-20 screws attach the applied hardware to the bracket; the longer #12-24 screws run through the bracket into the frame soffit. Nothing else has to be sourced to mount the bracket itself.
3) I am mounting a door holder on the frame stop above a coordinator. Do I need a bracket like the Rockwood 2601C?
Yes, if the fasteners for that device land in the same run of soffit the coordinator occupies. Coordinators mount to the soffit of the frame head on a pair of doors, and any stop applied device screwed through that same area drives its screws into the coordinator housing and binds the carrier bar. The 2601C spaces the applied hardware off the coordinator so the sequencing arm still travels. If your holder or stop mounts to the door face or to the frame away from the coordinator, you do not need it.
4) How long is the Rockwood 2601C bracket?
Five inches. That length is what you need to check against the footprint of the stop applied device you are mounting, since the bracket has to sit under the hardware's fastener pattern to do its job.
5) Is the black finish on the Rockwood 2601C a final finish or does it need painting?
It is a black prime coat, which is a paintable base rather than a decorative finish. On a frame soffit the bracket is largely hidden behind the applied hardware, so many jobs leave it as is; if it will be visible, plan on field painting it to match the frame. Black is the only finish the 2601C is offered in.
6) How many 2601C brackets do I need per pair of doors?
Order one bracket per piece of stop applied hardware sitting over the coordinator. The bracket comes with one set of eight screws, four to hold the device and four to fasten through to the frame, so each bracket handles a single applied device. A pair of doors with two soffit mounted devices over the coordinator takes two brackets.
7) Will the 2601C bracket corrode or add much weight on an aluminum frame?
The bracket is aluminum, so it is light and it will not rust out on an interior opening. That also means it takes a paint coat well over the prime finish.
8) Is the Rockwood 2601C rated for commercial openings or is it a residential part?
