1) Will the Rockwood 455 roller stop work where two doors swing into each other at an angle?
That is exactly the case the 455 curved roller stop is built for. The curved face and roller let a door strike at an odd angle and roll off instead of catching square, which is what a flat wall bumper needs to do its job. Mounted on the wall or the adjacent door face, it takes the impact where two leaves come together off-axis.
2) How far off the wall does the Rockwood 455 stop hold the door?
Projection is 2-3/4 inches, so the door face stops that far out from the mounting surface. Measure from your wall to where the door leaf, and anything on it like a lever or a pull, would otherwise land: if your trim needs more clearance than 2-3/4 inches you want a longer-projection wall stop or a floor stop instead. Three #8 x 3/4 inch oval head sheet metal screws ship with the stop. Those are sized for a solid substrate: into hollow drywall or block you will need your own anchors, since 3/4 inch of thread has nothing to bite. Wood blocking or a stud behind the mounting point is the clean install.
4) What ANSI/BHMA number does the Rockwood 455 roller stop carry?
The 455 is an ANSI A156.16 product, type L02211. A156.16 is the auxiliary hardware standard that covers stops, holders and bumpers, so if a spec section calls for an L022 series stop this meets the callout by number rather than by description. 5) Is the Rockwood 455 stop tough enough for a high traffic commercial door?
Solid cast brass body with a rubber bumper, and it is catalogued as commercial rather than residential grade. Brass castings hold up in corridors, schools and hotels where a stamped or zinc stop deforms after enough hits, and the rubber takes the noise out of the strike. The wear part is the bumper, not the body.
6) Should I use a curved roller stop or a plain wall bumper?
Depends on the geometry of the swing. A flat wall bumper only works when the door arrives square to the wall. When the leaf comes in at an angle, or into another door, it hits a flat bumper on an edge and skids or damages the trim. The 455 uses a curved roller so an angled strike rolls instead of catching. Square swing into a flat wall, a standard bumper is simpler and cheaper.
7) What finishes can I get the Rockwood 455 curved roller stop in?
Two finishes: 626 satin chrome and 616 satin bronze oil-rubbed. 626 is the standard match for satin chrome levers and closers on most commercial openings; 616 goes with oil-rubbed bronze trim.
