Rockwood 872 26D – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What fasteners come with the Rockwood 872 flush pull, and do I need anything else to install it?
Two #4 x 5/8 inch oval head wood screws ship with each 872 pull. That screw length tells you what the pull is meant for: wood doors and wood-cored panels. On a hollow metal or mineral-core door you'll be supplying your own fasteners and prepping accordingly, because the supplied wood screws won't hold. You also need to rout the mortise pocket yourself; there's no drive-in version of the 872.
2) Does the Rockwood 872 flush pull meet an ANSI standard for a spec job?
It's built to ANSI A156.14 and carries the B0781 type number. A156.14 is the BHMA standard covering sliding and folding door hardware, so if your door schedule calls out A156.14 flush pulls, the 872 answers it directly and B0781 is the designation to write on the submittal.
3) Is a flush pull enough on a pocket door, or do I need a latching pull too?
The 872 is a pull only. It gives you a recessed grip to move the panel and nothing more, so a bathroom or bedroom pocket door needing privacy takes a separate pocket door lock or latch set. If you want the pull and the latch function together, the Baldwin Estate 8601 pocket door pull is made for passage and dummy applications on that same kind of opening. Budget the 872 as the pull half of the job and specify your latch separately.
4) I need a flush pull for a behavioral health or detention door. Is the Rockwood 872 suitable?
For a ligature-resistant opening, look at the ABH 1911 Series instead, which is built with a ligature-resistant design. The 872 is a conventional cast flush pull; nothing in its makeup is stated as ligature resistant, and on a psychiatric or detention door that distinction is the whole specification. Use the 872 on standard institutional, office, retail, education, hospitality and residential sliding openings.
5) Is there a flush pull that does not require a routed mortise like the Rockwood 872 does?
The Trimco 1059 is a drive-in flush cup pull, which is set into a bored hole and driven home rather than mortised to a rectangular cutout. The Rockwood 872 is a cast brass pull that mounts with 2 each #4 x 5/8 inch oval head wood screws into a prepared recess. On a retrofit where a router template is inconvenient, the drive-in style changes the door prep entirely.
6) What flush pull should I specify for a behavioral health or detention opening instead of the Rockwood 872?
The ABH 1911 series flush door pull is built with a ligature-resistant design for those openings. The Rockwood 872 is a commercial cast brass flush pull certified to ANSI A156.14, B0781, suited to institutional buildings, offices, retail, education, hotels and restaurants, but it is not a ligature-resistant design. On a patient room or holding cell where the specification calls for ligature resistance, the ABH 1911 is the pull that answers the spec.
7) Is the Rockwood 872 flush pull solid brass or plated steel?
Cast brass, solid through. That matters on two counts: cast brass takes the oil-rubbed and chrome plating finishes evenly and wears to a consistent look rather than showing steel through a worn plate, and a cast body resists the deformation a stamped pull gets when someone hooks a hand in it hard. It's a commercial-duty part, not a residential stamping.
8) I am standardizing flush pulls across a facility and need matching finishes. How does the Rockwood 872 compare to the Trimco 1060/1061?
The Rockwood 872 cast flush pull comes in 613 satin bronze oil-rubbed and 626 satin chrome, and it is certified to ANSI A156.14, B0781, which is the reference a facility specification can be written against. The Trimco 1060/1061 flush cup pulls are the closest peer in form, so a mixed building can carry both shapes; confirm the finish designation on each order so the pulls read the same down a corridor.
