1) Will the Rockwood DFF4 fit my hollow metal frame rabbet?
It's built for 1-3/4 inch rabbet frames. That's the standard rabbet on commercial hollow metal frames hung with 1-3/4 inch doors, so on typical institutional or office openings the DFF4 drops straight in. If your frame has a different rabbet dimension, this is the wrong plate.
2) Do I need to buy screws separately for the Rockwood DFF4 filler plate?
No. Each plate comes with two #12-24 x 1/2 inch flat head machine screws. The #12-24 thread is the same machine screw thread the frame's factory hinge tappings use, so the plate fastens into the existing hinge screw holes without drilling or tapping. Flat head means the screws sit flush in the plate.
3) What finish does the Rockwood DFF4 come in, and can I paint it?
Prime coat only. The steel plate ships primed so it takes finish paint directly, which is what you want when you're matching a painted hollow metal frame. There's no plated or architectural finish option on the DFF4, so plan on painting it to the jamb color.
4) Why does the Rockwood DFF4 only come in a pack of 25?
It's sold 25 to a pack because filler plates get used in volume. A property manager rekeying or rehanging a floor of frames, or a contractor closing out unused hinge preps across a building, is covering dozens of openings at once, not one.
