1) Will the Rockwood 102x70C pull plate work on a door thicker than 1-3/4 inches?
The 102x70C ships with 1/4-20 x 2-1/4 inch thru bolts and finish washers sized for a standard 1-3/4 inch door, along with #6 x 5/8 inch oval head sheet metal screws. On anything thicker than 1-3/4 inches you need to advise the door thickness at time of order so the correct bolt length comes with it, otherwise the thru bolts will come up short.
2) Which pull plate should I use if my door already has an 8 inch center-to-center pull pattern instead of 5-1/2 inch?
The Rockwood 102x70C is built around a 5-1/2 inch center-to-center pull and will not cover an 8 inch pattern. The Ives 8303 is a heavy duty pull plate offered with 8 inch or 10 inch center-to-center mounting, which is the one to specify for wider existing hole spacing.
3) Is the Rockwood 102x70C pull plate rated for a high traffic commercial opening?
It is a commercial item built from stainless steel and conforms to ANSI A156.6, type J405, the standard covering architectural door trim. That is the pull plate spec an institutional or MRO buyer looks for on school, hospital, and office openings.
4) What finish does the Rockwood 102x70C come in, and will it match my other satin stainless hardware?
One finish only: 630 satin stainless steel, the US32D equivalent. That is the most common commercial finish, so it lines up with satin stainless push plates, kick plates, and hinges already on most institutional openings.
5) Should I thru-bolt the Rockwood 102x70C or use the screws?
Both are supplied. The #6 x 5/8 inch sheet metal screws fasten the plate, and the 1/4-20 x 2-1/4 inch thru bolts with finish washers carry the pull itself. On any opening that gets real traffic, thru-bolt the pull. Screws alone into a hollow metal or wood door face will work loose under pulling load. The Ives 8302 is another heavy duty pull plate built around through bolt mounting if you want a second option.
6) Can I use the Rockwood 102x70C as pull trim on a door with an exit device?
The 102x70C is a general purpose stainless pull plate, not device trim. Exit device pull trim has to match the device manufacturer's mounting. For a Detex Value Series device, for example, the pull trim is the Detex P/PN Series pull plate. Use the 102x70C on push/pull openings, closers, and non-latching doors.
7) What do I order for the push side of the door to go with a Rockwood 102x70C on the pull side?
The 102x70C is a pull plate, so it handles only the pull side. For the push side in a matching footprint, Delaney offers a 4 inch by 16 inch push plate, and a 3-1/2 inch by 15 inch push plate if you are working to the smaller plate size. Emtek's Knoxville, Modern, and Petal lines are sold as push and pull plate sets if you want both faces from one decorative series.
8) Is there a pull plate with a slightly narrower plate than the Rockwood 102x70C for a narrow stile door?
The Rockwood 102x70C uses a 4 by 16 inch plate. For a narrower stile, Delaney offers a 3-1/2 inch by 15 inch pull plate, which reduces both plate width and height. Delaney also makes a 4 inch by 16 inch pull plate if you want to hold the same footprint as the Rockwood.
