Rockwood ROC-111x70C-US32D – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Rockwood 111x70C meet ANSI/BHMA requirements for a commercial pull plate?
It's built to ANSI A156.6, type J405, which is the builders hardware standard covering architectural door trim. It is a commercial-grade item, not residential trim.
2) Is the Detex P/PN pull plate a substitute for a Rockwood 111x70C on a standard door?
They solve different problems. The Detex P/PN Series pull plate is made for Detex Value Series exit devices, so it belongs on an opening that already carries that device and is prepped for it. The Rockwood 111x70C is a stainless steel pull plate for a commercial door face with a 10 inch center-to-center pull, mounted with #6 x 5/8 inch OH SMS or a 1/4-20 x 2-1/4 inch thru bolt and finish washer for a standard 1-3/4 inch door. On a plain flush door with no exit device, the Detex plate is not the part.
3) I need a 4 by 16 pull plate to match the Rockwood 111x70C plate size - what else comes in that size?
The Delaney 4 inch x 16 inch Door Pull Plate is built on a 4 inch by 16 inch plate, the same plate footprint as the Rockwood 111x70C. Delaney also offers a 4 inch x 16 inch Push Plate for the push side of the same opening, and a smaller pair in a 3-1/2 inch x 15 inch Pull Plate and 3-1/2 inch x 15 inch Push Plate if the stile will not take the wider plate. Matching plate size matters when the existing plate has shadowed or worn the door face - a smaller plate will not cover the old outline.
4) What is the closest heavy duty stainless equivalent to the Rockwood 111x70C pull plate with a 10 inch center-to-center pull?
The Ives 8303 is the nearest match on pull spacing: it is a heavy duty pull plate offered with 8 inch or 10 inch center-to-center mounting, so the 10 inch option lines up with the 10 inch CTC of the Rockwood 111x70C. Both are pull plates rather than plain push plates, so the door prep is the same idea - plate on the pull face with the pull already mounted to it. If the opening was drilled for the Rockwood's 10 inch spacing, the 8303 in its 10 inch CTC form uses the same spacing.
5) Which pull plates have a shorter center-to-center pull than the Rockwood 111x70C 10 inch spacing?
Several Trimco cast plates run tighter spacing. The Trimco 1010 Series is a cast pull plate with a 5 inch CTC, the Trimco 1012 is a cast tapered heavy duty plate with a 5.5 inch CTC pull, the Trimco 1013 is a round heavy duty plate also at 5.5 inch CTC, and the Trimco 1014 Series is a half-round plate with a 6 inch CTC pull. The Rockwood 111x70C sits at 10 inch CTC. A shorter grip changes the hand position and the fastener layout, so a swap in either direction means new holes in the door.
6) Which pull plate should I use on a high traffic opening where the pull gets yanked hard?
Look at the through bolt mounting and the duty level. The Ives 8302 is a heavy duty pull plate specified with through bolt mounting, and the Ives 8303 is heavy duty as well. The Trimco 1010, 1012, and 1013 are cast heavy duty pull plates. The Rockwood 111x70C is a commercial stainless plate that ships with a 1/4-20 x 2-1/4 inch thru bolt and finish washer for a standard 1-3/4 inch door alongside the #6 x 5/8 inch sheet metal screws, so it can be through bolted rather than screwed to the door skin. Through bolting is what keeps a pull from tearing out of a hollow metal face.
7) How do I order a Rockwood 111x70 pull plate with ADA barrier-free clearance?
Barrier free is a prefix option, not a separate model. Rockwood offers the plate with 2-1/2 inch clearance behind the pull using the BF prefix, ordered as BF110 x 70C. The standard 111x70C does not carry that clearance, so if the opening needs the wider grip clearance, specify the BF version up front.
8) Can I get the Rockwood 111x70C pull plate beveled for a door edge or frame condition?
A heavy bevel version is available, specified as HVBEV when ordering. Mounting is standard duty 1/4-20 unless you call out something else. Both are order-time callouts, so they have to go on the purchase, not sorted out on site.
9) What finish and material is the Rockwood 111x70C pull plate, and will it hold up in a high-traffic entry?
Stainless steel, supplied in 630 satin stainless (US32D). That is the standard commercial finish for schools, hospitals, offices and detention work, it doesn't show wear the way a plated brass finish does, and it takes cleaning chemicals without stripping.
10) Can the Rockwood 111x70C pull plate be used on a door with an exit device?
No, not as a match for a panic. A pull plate for an exit device opening has to suit the device manufacturer's mounting, and Detex, for example, has its own P/PN Series pull plate made for its Value Series exit devices. The Rockwood 111x70C is a standalone architectural pull plate for a push/pull opening or a door with separate locking hardware.
11) Are the mounting screws included with the Rockwood 111x70C, or do I order them separately?
Fasteners come with the plate. You get #6 x 5/8 inch oval head sheet metal screws along with 1/4-20 x 2-1/4 inch thru bolts and finish washers. The sheet metal screws suit a surface application; the thru bolts are the standard duty 1/4-20 mounting for a wood or hollow metal door where you want the pull anchored through the leaf.
12) What do I put on the push side of a door if the pull side gets the Rockwood 111x70C?
A pull plate carries a pull and goes on the pull face; the push side needs a flat plate with no pull on it. The Delaney 4 inch x 16 inch Push Plate matches the 4 inch by 16 inch plate footprint of the Rockwood 111x70C, and the Delaney 3-1/2 inch x 15 inch Push Plate covers the narrower plate size. Emtek also pairs push and pull together in its Knoxville, Modern, and lost wax cast bronze Petal push and pull plates if both faces are being done in one decorative look.
13) Does a Trimco 1013 round pull plate drop into the same holes as a Rockwood 111x70C?
No. The Trimco 1013 is a round heavy duty pull plate with a 5.5 inch CTC pull, while the Rockwood 111x70C is a 4 inch by 16 inch rectangular plate with a 10 inch CTC pull. The pull mounting centers differ and the plate shapes differ, so the door face has to be drilled fresh and the old plate outline will not be covered. The Trimco 1014 Series half-round plate at 6 inch CTC is in the same situation.
