2) How does a Rockwood K1050 kick plate attach to the door, and what screws come with it?
Standard mounting is #6 x 5/8 inch oval head sheet metal screws. If you would rather not drill, SA gets you self adhesive mounting. The Hager 190S is the closest peer part. It is a door protection plate in Hager's 190 Series, offered in satin stainless steel with four beveled edges. The Rockwood K1050 is a standard duty stainless steel protection plate as well, with beveled 3 or 4 edge options ordered as B3E or B4E. Both are stainless plates for the same job at the bottom of a door; the difference is that the 190S four-edge bevel is built into the part as named, while on the K1050 the bevel count is an ordering option.

Stainless steel, and it is a commercial grade product rather than a residential one. Stainless takes cart strikes and shoe scuffs at the bottom of the door without denting the door face itself, which is why these go on hospital, school, hotel and multi-family corridor doors. Black Suede Powder, a powder coated black rather than a polished metal look. That matters if you are matching black push plates, pulls and levers on a storefront or a renovated corridor. It is the single finish this plate is built in at the 10 x 34 size.
6) Should I order beveled edges on a kick plate, and what is B4E versus B3E?
Bevel the exposed edges. B4E bevels all four, B3E bevels three and leaves the bottom edge square where it sits at the door bottom. Bevels keep the edge from catching a mop, a cart wheel or a shoe and keep it from being a cut hazard. HVBEV is the heavy bevel if you want a more pronounced edge on a rough traffic opening.
7) What is the difference between a Rockwood K1050 and a Hager 190S or Ives 8400 kick plate?
All three are stainless door protection plates and any of them will do the job of keeping the bottom of a door from getting beaten up. The Rockwood K1050 here is the black powder coated one. The Hager 190S in 32D is satin stainless with four beveled edges, so that is the one to reach for if the rest of your hardware is brushed stainless and you want the plate to disappear into it. The Ives 8400 Series is the other stainless beveled edge option. Where the K1050 separates itself is the options list, the F version for labelled doors, security Torx, custom cutouts.
8) Is a 10 inch high kick plate enough, or do I need an armor plate?
Ten inches is the common kick plate height and it covers the shoe and cart strike zone at the bottom of the door. If you are dealing with beds, gurneys or pallet jacks hitting well above that, you want a taller armor plate rather than a kick plate. The K1050 is the standard duty plate, meant for normal foot traffic openings, not for a loading dock or a hospital bed corridor.
9) What is the simplest way to add a kick plate to an existing metal door without drilling?
Order the Rockwood K1050 with the SA self-adhesive mounting option, which mounts without screw holes. If you would rather fasten it and the door is metal, the TEK self-drilling screw option avoids pre-drilling. The Hager 190S and Ives 8400 are stainless protection plates with beveled edges supplied as catalog plates. If your opening needs the plate to clear hardware, the cutout option is the one to call out.
11) Can I get a kick plate cut around a lock, louver or vision light?
