Rockwood K4125 Kick Plate Clear Plastic

The fastener is a #6 x 3/4 inch truss head sheet metal screw. At 3/4 inch it seats in the door face and does not pass through a standard 1-3/4 inch commercial door, so the plate is a face application on one side only. Truss heads are the wide low-profile head, which is what holds a thin plate flat without dishing it around the hole.

It protects the same part of the door, but it does not look the same. The Rockwood K4125 is clear plastic in a clear finish, so the door face behind it stays visible - the wood grain, paint color, or veneer reads through the plate. A Hager 190S is satin stainless steel and an Ives 8400 is stainless steel, both opaque, so either one puts a metal band across the bottom of the door instead. On a job where the architect specified the plastic plate to keep the door finish showing, a stainless plate is a change in appearance, not a like for like substitution.

All three fit that opening as face-applied plates on a commercial door. The Rockwood K4125 is made in a 10 inch x 34 inch size for a standard kick plate height on a 34 inch door, along with an 8 inch x 34 inch and a 16 inch x 34 inch for a taller mop or cart strike zone, in .125 inch clear plastic. Where the specification calls for metal on that same door, the Hager 190S is a satin stainless steel kick plate with four beveled edges and the Ives 8400 is a stainless steel protection plate with beveled edges. Match the plate height to the damage being covered and the material to the finish schedule.

They are close counterparts from two manufacturers. The Hager 190S belongs to Hager's 190 Series and is a kick plate in a satin stainless steel finish with four beveled edges. The Ives 8400 is from the Ives 8400 series and is a stainless steel door protection plate with beveled edges. Both are stainless plates with beveled edges, so a facility standardizing on one brand of door hardware can generally pick whichever line matches the rest of the package.

Push side is the standard call, since that is the face people hit with a foot or a cart when they open the door. On openings that get pushed both ways, or where housekeeping equipment runs down both faces, order two plates and mount one each side. Handing does not come into it: the K4125 is a flat plate with no handed features, so the same 8 x 34, 10 x 34 or 16 x 34 plate works on a left or right hand door.

Confirm the fasteners against the plate that is actually ordered. The Rockwood K4125 comes with #6 x 3/4 inch TH SMS and can be ordered with countersunk holes when a flush screw head is wanted. The Hager 190S and the Ives 8400 are stainless steel plates, and screw size and head style follow the plate, so the fastener pack should be verified when switching between a plastic and a stainless plate rather than assumed to match.
