ROFU 1402 Fail Secure Electric Strike, Hollow Metal/Aluminum/Wood Frame, Faceplate Size 1-1/4" x 4-7/8"

The 1402 uses an ANSI size anodized aluminum faceplate measuring 1-1/4 by 4-7/8 inches, and it is made for hollow metal, aluminum, or wood frames. That covers the standard ANSI 4-7/8 inch strike prep found in hollow metal frames and in aluminum jambs prepped to ANSI. If your aluminum jamb is a narrow stile prep rather than an ANSI cutout, it is the wrong plate for that opening.

Keeper depth on the 1402 is 3/4 inch, which takes a latch projecting up to 5/8 inch with 1/8 inch of door to frame clearance. That is the standard 5/8 inch latchbolt off a cylindrical lockset. A 3/4 inch throw latch, or a deadlatch sitting deeper than 5/8 inch once clearance is accounted for, will bind in the keeper.

Fail secure. Cut power to the 1402 and the keeper stays locked, so the door remains secured and is still openable from the inside by the lever or panic hardware. That is what you want on a perimeter or tenant entry. If your local code or the AHJ requires the opening to release on power loss, you need a fail safe strike instead. The Hager 2925 and 2928 are field reversible between fail safe and fail secure.

Three voltage builds: 8-16 VAC / 3-6 VDC, 12 VAC/VDC, and 24 VAC/VDC. The 8-16 VAC version is the one that runs off a doorbell transformer for buzz in intercom entry, and it buzzes on AC. Pick 12 or 24 VAC/VDC when you are feeding it from an access control panel or a filtered supply and want silent DC operation. Voltage is fixed at the factory here, so match it to the power supply you already have before ordering.

Same plate size. The Adams Rite 7170 is a hollow metal and wood jamb strike with a 1-1/4 by 4-7/8 inch faceplate, and the 1402 carries the same 1-1/4 by 4-7/8 ANSI faceplate for hollow metal, aluminum, or wood frames. The 7170 is also non fire rated, like the 1402. Confirm the existing latch projects no more than 5/8 inch, since that is the 1402 keeper limit.

The 1402 is sized for a latch projecting up to 5/8 inch into a 3/4 inch keeper, which is the cylindrical lockset range. A rim panic device throws a much deeper Pullman latch and needs a rim strike, for example the SDC 30-4 with a 3/4 inch Pullman latchbolt rim mount, or the Hager 2945 rim exit strike. The ROFU 1402 uses a 1-1/4 inch by 4-7/8 inch ANSI size faceplate. Several fail-secure strikes carry a different plate and need a different prep: the Trine 001 Series and the Trine 2001 use a 5-7/8 inch by 1-1/4 inch faceplate, and the Trine 004 uses a 6-1/4 inch by 1-3/8 inch faceplate. The SDC 30-4 Series is rim mount for a 3/4 inch Pullman latchbolt rather than a jamb-mounted ANSI strike, and the HES Folger Adam 310-4-2 is built for surface vertical rods. The RCI 15BS is a fail-secure strike for a special offset latch entry. The Locknetics NC450 is a no-cut strike intended to avoid frame cutting altogether.

No handing to specify. The 1402 is reversible and non-handed, so one part number covers both hands and you can stock a single unit for a building with doors swinging both ways.

Fire doors need a labeled strike, not this one.

Where one part number should cover mixed conditions, the SDC 15 Series is a value strike for a 5/8 inch latchbolt running 12/24 VDC from a single unit, and the SDC 25 Series covers a 1/2 inch latchbolt. The Camden CX-ED1410 and CX-ED1420 are universal Grade 1 ANSI fire-rated strikes, and the Camden CX-ED1689L-4 ships with four faceplates while the CX-ED1799L-8 ships with eight, so one stocked strike adapts to several frame preps.

Where the frame prep has radiused corners, the SDC 45F Series is a fire-rated strike with 5/8 inch latchbolt compatibility and a radius corner faceplate. The SDC 15 Series also handles a 5/8 inch latchbolt on 12/24 VDC, and the Adams Rite 7240 is a fire-rated strike for cylindrical locksets with 5/8 inch latchbolt projection.

Three: 628 clear anodized, 613 oil rubbed bronze, and 606 satin brass. Clear anodized is the match for aluminum storefront and most commercial hollow metal, 613 for dark bronze storefront, 606 where the rest of the trim is brass. All three are offered in every voltage.

Commercial. The 1402 is built for commercial openings, with an ANSI size faceplate that drops into standard commercial frame prep in hollow metal, aluminum, or wood. For an opening where you want a Grade 1 heavy duty strike specifically called out on the spec, look at the Alarm Controls AES-100 or the Von Duprin 4211, both Grade 1 heavy duty.
