ROFU 1509 Electric Strike, Fail-secure, Hollow Metal/Aluminum/Wood Frame, Satin Aluminum Clear Anodized, Faceplate Size 7-15/16“ x 1-7/16”

The 1509 faceplate is a zinc/aluminum alloy plate cut for hollow metal, aluminum, and wood frames, so a storefront jamb is a normal application for it. Faceplate footprint is 7-15/16 x 1-7/16 inches, so the jamb has to have enough flat area to take that cutout. If the opening is a narrow aluminum jamb already prepped for a 1-1/4 x 4-7/8 inch plate, the Adams Rite 7100 or 7160 Series strikes are built for that ANSI aluminum jamb prep instead.

Keeper depth on the 1509 handles up to 5/8 inch of latch projection, and up to 3/4 inch if you have 1/8 inch of door-to-frame clearance to work with. Measure the latchbolt on the lock you already have: a standard 1/2 or 5/8 inch cylindrical latch drops in, a deadlatch throwing more than 3/4 inch will not clear the keeper. For a 3/4 inch Pullman latch off a rim exit device, the SDC 30-4 Series is the strike built for that.

Fail-secure. Cut the power and the 1509 keeper stays locked, so the door remains secured from the outside; the inside lever or exit device still retracts the latch mechanically for free egress. That makes it the right choice for a perimeter or tenant door you want locked in an outage. If the opening needs to release and unlock on power loss, or if you want to decide that in the field, the Hager 2925 and 2928 are field-reversible fail safe/fail secure strikes.

Three voltage builds are offered: 8-16 VAC / 3-6 VDC, 12 VAC/VDC, and 24 VAC/VDC. Match it to the power supply and access control board already at the opening. The 8-16 VAC / 3-6 VDC version is the one that runs off a doorbell style transformer for intercom entry; the 12 and 24 volt versions are what pair with a typical access control power supply. Voltage is fixed per unit here, not field-selectable, so pick it at order time.

Use a strike that carries the fire label instead. Where the opening is a labeled fire door, the Von Duprin 6210 is UL 10C fire rated for mortise locks, the Von Duprin 6400 carries a 3-hour UL 10C rating in fail-secure, the Hager 2930 is fire rated for cylindrical and mortise locks with 12/24VDC, and the Camden CX-ED1410/CX-ED1420 Series are ANSI Grade 1 fire-rated universal strikes.

The ROFU 1509 is a fail-secure strike for hollow metal, aluminum, and wood frames with a 7-15/16" x 1-7/16" faceplate. For an opening that requires a fire-rated strike, the Von Duprin 6400 32D is a Grade 1 modular electric strike for mortise or cylindrical locks, fail-secure, in satin stainless steel, with a 3-hour UL 10C fire rating in the fail-secure configuration. The Hager 2930 is another fire-rated Grade 1 electric strike for cylindrical and mortise locks with 12/24VDC dual voltage. Both carry a fire rating the 1509 does not describe itself as having.

The ROFU 1509 uses a 7-15/16" x 1-7/16" faceplate, which is a longer cutout than the common ANSI prep. For a frame already cut for the 4-7/8" x 1-1/4" ANSI opening, the Dortronics 3300 Series is an electric strike with a latch bolt sensing switch, 12/24VDC, and a strike plate for ANSI prep at 4-7/8in x 1-1/4in. The Von Duprin 4211 32D is a Grade 1 heavy duty strike for cylindrical locks with 12/24 VDC field-selectable voltage, which matches the dual-voltage approach the 1509 covers through separate 12 VAC/VDC and 24 VAC/VDC builds.

When the specification calls out a graded strike, the Alarm Controls AES-100 is a Grade 1 heavy duty electric strike, the Securitron MUNL Series is a Grade 1 fire-rated mortise unlatch strike, and the Von Duprin 6210 is a Grade 1 heavy duty strike for mortise locks at 24 VDC fail-secure with a UL 10C fire rating. The Von Duprin 6210 keeps the fail-secure mode the ROFU 1509 uses, and its 24 VDC matches the 1509's 24 VAC/VDC voltage build.

The ROFU 1509 is built around a latch projection of up to 5/8" with 1/8" door and frame clearance, which is cylindrical and mortise latch territory rather than an exit device pullman latch. For a rim exit device, the SDC 30-4 Series is a 3/4" pullman latchbolt rim mount electric strike in stainless steel, and the Hager 2945 is a fire rated rim exit strike with field selectable fail safe/fail secure and a latchbolt monitor. For surface vertical rods, the HES Folger Adam 310-4-2 is a complete electric strike pac built for that application.

The ROFU 1509 has a keeper depth allowing a maximum latch projection of 5/8" with 1/8" door and frame clearance, and a 3/4" keeper depth. For a 1/2" throw, the SDC 25 Series is a value electric strike with 1/2" latchbolt compatibility. For a range of throws in one body, the HES Folger Adam 310-1(X) is an electric strike body for 1/2", 5/8", or 3/4" throw latchbolts, Grade 1 and fire rated. On a pair of doors, the Rockwood electric strike for double doors uses a 3/4 keeper.

The ROFU 1509 uses a 7-15/16" x 1-7/16" faceplate, so the jamb has to be prepped to that opening. Where cutting the existing frame is not an option, the Locknetics NC450 is a no cut electric strike. Where several frame preps are in play across a building, the Camden CX-ED1689L-4 is a fire rated universal low profile strike supplied with 4 faceplates, and the Camden CX-ED1410 and CX-ED1420 Series are universal Grade 1 ANSI fire-rated strikes.

The ROFU 1509 takes a maximum latch projection of 5/8". Two fire-rated peers work with the same latchbolt: the SDC 45F Series is a fire-rated strike with 5/8" latchbolt compatibility and a radius corner faceplate, and the Adams Rite 7240 is a fire-rated strike for cylindrical locksets with 5/8" latchbolt projection. Both change the faceplate profile from the ROFU 1509's 7-15/16" x 1-7/16", so the jamb prep needs checking.

No handing to specify. The 1509 is reversible and non-handed, so one part covers both swings and you can stock a single unit across a building instead of splitting inventory by hand.

Not for that job. The 1509 needs a 7-15/16 x 1-7/16 inch pocket cut into the jamb. Where cutting the frame is off the table, look at the Locknetics NC450 no-cut electric strike, which is built specifically to go in without a frame cut.

The ROFU 1509 is specified on tamper strength, keeper depth, and voltage rather than on switch outputs. Where the access control system needs to see latch status, the Dortronics 3300 Series includes a latch bolt sensing switch and runs 12/24VDC, the Hager 2945 includes a latchbolt monitor, and the Camden CX-ED1799L-8 is a fire rated dual monitor Grade 1 electric strike supplied with 8 faceplates.

They solve a narrower frame case. The ROFU 1509 uses a 7-15/16" x 1-7/16" faceplate and is described for hollow metal, aluminum, and wood frames. The Adams Rite 7100 Series is an electric strike for aluminum jambs with a flat 1-1/4" x 4-7/8" faceplate, the 7160 covers aluminum jambs with the same 1-1/4" x 4-7/8" faceplate, and the 7170 covers hollow metal and wood jambs with that faceplate. Those are the ANSI-size faceplate and a different jamb cutout from the ROFU 1509's, so the frame prep is not interchangeable.

The ROFU 1509 is built in three voltage configurations: 8-16 VAC/3-6 VDC, 12 VAC/VDC, and 24 VAC/VDC. On the AC side, the Trine 4300CC strike runs 16-24VAC/DC fail secure with a 5-7/8" x 1-1/4" faceplate and up to 5/8" throw, and the Trine strike catalogued as TRI004 runs 8-16VAC fail secure with up to 5/8" throw. Both are fail secure like the 1509 and both are fire rated.

Rated commercial. The 1509 is a commercial door hardware strike with 1000 lb tamper strength and a zinc/aluminum alloy faceplate, which puts it in apartment entries, office suites, and tenant doors rather than residential interior use.

Satin aluminum clear anodized, which is the finish that disappears against a standard clear anodized aluminum storefront frame. If the rest of the openings in the building are satin stainless, the 32D strikes match better: the Locknetics CS450-32D, MDS100 US32D, and MS100 US32D are all satin stainless units.

The ROFU 1509 is finished in satin aluminum clear anodized on a zinc/aluminum alloy faceplate. To match satin stainless hardware on the rest of the opening, the Von Duprin 6400 32D is a Grade 1 modular fail-secure strike in satin stainless steel, and the Locknetics CS450-32D, MDS100 US32D, MS100 US32D, and NC450 US32D all carry the 32D satin stainless designation in their part numbers.
