Sargent 1431D EAB – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Do I get the door closer with the 1431D plate, or is it just the bracket?
Just the plate. The 1431D EAB is an installation accessory, a genuine Sargent door closer part supplied on its own. The 1431 Series closer body, arm, and any parallel arm bracket are ordered separately.
2) Do I need a drop plate for a parallel arm closer, or can I mount it straight to the door?
You only need one when the mounting surface is short. A parallel arm closer mounts to the door face under the frame soffit, and if the top rail is too narrow or a stop, glass, or existing prep is in the way, the closer body won't land where the arm needs it. The 1431D drop plate lowers the closer and restores the correct arm geometry. On a door with a full-height top rail and clear soffit, no drop plate is required.
3) What finish is the Sargent 1431D EAB drop plate, and will it match my other brass door hardware?
The EAB suffix is Sprayed Brass, and it ships in the 04 Satin Brass, Clear Coated option. It is a factory-applied finish meant to coordinate with brass-finish door hardware on the same opening. If your existing closers and trim are aluminum or painted, the brass plate will read as a mismatch on the door face where it is visible.
4) Is the Sargent 1431D drop plate rated for commercial traffic, or is it a residential part?
Commercial. It is built to commercial standards as an OEM Sargent closer component and is used in office buildings, schools, healthcare facilities, retail, government buildings, industrial and warehouse sites, and multi-tenant residential properties. Facilities standardizing on Sargent 1431 closers can stock it as the common drop plate for those openings.
