Sargent 25RO EB – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Sargent 25RO arm fit a 1431 Series door closer?
Yes. The 25RO is built as a direct replacement arm for the Sargent 1431 Series closer, so it mounts to that closer's spindle and soffit prep without modification. It is not sold as a universal arm for other closer families, so match the closer body to the 1431 Series before ordering.
2) Do I have to replace the whole door closer if the arm is bent or broken?
No. Where the closer body still holds oil and controls sweep and latch properly, swapping just the arm restores operation. The 25RO is a genuine Sargent replacement arm for the 1431 Series, which is why facilities keep them on the shelf instead of budgeting for full closer units on every damaged opening.
3) What is a wrought standard closer arm, and how is it different from a parallel arm or hold-open arm?
A wrought standard arm is the regular-arm assembly: the closer mounts on the pull side of the door and the arm projects out to a soffit bracket on the frame face. A parallel arm instead runs back along the door face on the push side, which protects the arm from abuse and is what most institutional specs call for. A hold-open arm adds a friction or mechanical detent to park the door open. The 25RO is the standard wrought arm, so order it only where the existing 1431 installation is a regular-arm application.
4) What finish is the Sargent 25RO EB closer arm, and will it match existing bronze hardware?
The EB suffix is Sprayed Dark Bronze, sold under the 690 finish designation. It is a factory-applied painted finish, so it coordinates with other 690 dark bronze closers, hinges and trim already on the opening. If your existing closer arm is aluminum or brass toned, this one will not match.
5) I manage a building with several dark bronze Sargent closers. Can I standardize on one arm part number?
For openings running Sargent 1431 Series closers with a regular (standard) arm in dark bronze, the 25RO EB is the single arm to stock. Openings using parallel arm mounting or a hold-open arm take a different arm part, and closers from other Sargent series are not covered by this one, so inventory by closer series and mounting type rather than by finish alone.
6) Is the Sargent 25RO arm rated for high traffic commercial openings?
It is a commercial part, built for the duty cycle of office buildings, schools, hospitals, retail, government buildings, multi-tenant residential and warehouse doors. It is not a residential-grade component.
