1) What does the Sargent & Greenleaf 2890 alarm integration kit actually do?
It adds discreet sensors inside an S&G 2890B safe lock so the lock's status can be fed into a security monitoring system you already run. You pick which of the six lock positions you want reported, so the kit can be set up to match how your facility monitors the container.
2) What is the difference between S&G part 2890-640 and 2890-641?
2890-640 is the base alarm integration kit. 2890-641 is the same kit with dial rotation detection added, using a patent-pending system that lets you see when the combination dial is being turned. If you want an alert on someone working the dial, not just on lock position, order the 641.
3) Will the S&G alarm integration kit work with my existing 2890B lock, or does it have to be installed new?
Either way. It goes in easily during the original 2890B installation, and it can also be added to a lock that is already installed. Retrofitting to an existing installation has to be done by an S&G certified locksmith.
4) Which S&G lock bodies is the 2890 alarm kit compatible with?
The kit is built for the S&G 2890B lock and is compatible with 400 series or 500 series locks. If your container has something outside those, this kit is not the right part.
5) Can I choose which lock conditions trigger an alarm, or is it all or nothing?
You choose. The kit is customizable across six lock positions and you can monitor any combination of them, so a facility that only cares about a couple of conditions does not have to wire and watch all six.
6) Is the S&G alarm kit a standalone alarm, or do I need a monitoring panel?
It is an integration kit, not a self-contained alarm. The sensors report into a security monitoring system you already have in place, so a panel or monitoring service has to exist for the kit to be useful.
7) Will the alarm kit be visible from outside the safe or container?
No. The sensors mount inside the 2890B lock itself, so there is no external sensor hardware announcing that the lock is monitored.
